CHEESE H001.
Application filed September 16, 1921.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADoLrH F. STOELTING, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Kiel, in the county of Manitowoc and State of l Jisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cheese Hoops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in cheese hoops and more particularly of that type which are used in making Longhorn cheeses.
The general object of the invention is to provide a structure whereby the clamping action between the ring and hoop is most effective at the point where the lower edge of the ring engages the shoulder of the hoop whereby to prevent wrinkles being formed in the bandage at the upper portion of the cheese where such wrinkles are most likely to occur.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hoop to which the ring may be more readily applied without disarranging the bandage. My invention will be described in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is an elevational view with the upper portion of the device shown in section, and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view showing a modified form of the invention.
In the drawing the numeral 5 indicates the hoop which is usually formed with a slight taper toward the lower end and is provided with the enlarged portion 6 which is connected with the lower portion of the hoop by a shoulder 7 against which the lower edge of the hoop 8 engages to clamp the bandage 9 in position to receive the curd. The greater part of the upper portion 6 is formed in the present instance of somewhat larger diameter than has heretofore been customary and is connected with the shoulder 7 by a sloping portion 10 against which the lower edge of the ring is tightly clamped to hold the bandage.
In the modification shown in Figure 2 instead of having the sloping portion 10 in the hoop the lower portion of the ring is out- Serial No. 501,064.
wardly flared as shown at 11 to accomplish the same purpose of tightly engaging the bandage.
It will readily be understood that in using the hoops heretofore constructed the pres sure between the ring and hoop is distributed throughout the entire surface of the upper portion 6 and consequently the clamping action is not particularly effective at any given point. On the other hand in a hoop constructed in accordance with my invention a firm and positive clamping action is secured against the shoulder. It will also be under stood that the ring may be quickly applied so as to pull the bandage tight at the point where it is clamped and straighten out any wrinkles which might have a tendency to form.
I claim as my invention:
1. A- device of the character described comprising a hoop formed with an annular shoulder around the interior thereof and a ring adapted to seat on said shoulder, the upper portions of the ring and hoop being slightly spaced and substantially equidistant at all points when the ring is seated, and said ring and hoop converging toward each other immediately above said shoulder so as to to closely engage the interior of the hoop ad-' jacent the shoulder to clamp the bandage therebetween.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Kiel, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, E
ADOLPH F. STOELTING.
