BeV it known that I, OSCAR HOLMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of l/Vashington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Milk-Strainers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to strainers espe* cially adapted for the use of farmers and dairymen for straining milk, the primary object being the provision of a strainer which is strong and durable of construction and easily taken apart and reassembled so that it may be cleaned and kept in a sanitary condition.

Another object vis the provision cf a strainer in which the part-s that would likely become damaged (for example, the screen) may be easily removed and replaced, so that in the event of damage, it is not necessary to replace the entire article.

Other objects and advantages of the invention, will appear as the following description is read in connection with .the ac companying drawings.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the strainer includes a substantially funnel shaped body portion 10, having a flared upper receiving end and a restricted discharge end. This latter end is provided with a cylindrical neck portion 11, the lower edge of which is formed with an inwardly extending annular flange 12. This flange is transversely curved, as shown, to provide a seat 13, for a gasket 14, the latter being preferably formed of a rubber ring.

Positioned over the discharge end of the cylindrical neck portion is a screen 15, the latter being preferably formed of fine wire mesh and being surrounded with a stiffening frame 16. When in position, the screen 15 will be located at the lower end of the cy Specification of Letters Patent.

lindrical neck portion 11, and the frame 16 will rest upon the gasket 14, being clamped and held in position through the medium of a collar 17. The collar 17 is adapted to fit the outer surface of the cylindrical neck portion 11, and is provided with an inwardly extending annular flange 18, which is adapted to engage over the frame 16 of the screen to hold the latter compressed againstV the gasket 14. The sleeve 17 is removably held in position through the medium of inclined slots 19, located upon diametrically opposite sides of the sleeves for engagement with pins or lugs 20, the latter projecting from the outer surface of the neck portion 11. The upper or inner edge of the sleeve 17 is preferably turned over,l as indicated at 21', to provide additional strength.

From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that the invention provides an exceedingly simple and durable strainer, which may be easily taken apart for the substitution of worn or broken parts and for the purpose of keeping the strainer in a clean and sanitary condition.

The invention is equally as well adapted to use in connection with strainer pails such as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawings. For this purpose, the hood of the pail which is indicated at 21 is provided with a sleeve 22, which takes the place of the restricted neck portion 11 of the funnel shown in the remaining figures of the drawing. This sleeve 22 is provided with studs 23, which engage the slots 24, located upon diametrically opposite sides of a sleeve or annulus 25. The screen, which is indicated at 26 is clamped between the flange 27 of the sleeve or annulus 25 and the seat which is formed on the sleeve 22, the latter being similar in construction to the seat 12 and being adapted to receive a gasket, after the manner of the first described form of the invention. The sleeve or annulus 25 is provided with a lip 30. as is usual in pails of this character.

The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction. and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.

A strainer comprising a substantially funnel shaped body portion having a restricted cylindrical neck, a removable screen positoned over the end of the neck7 aninvvardly extending annular flange surrounding the end of the neck, said liange being cnrved transversely to provide a gasket seat, a gas*- ket positioned insaid seat between the screen over the screen and means for removably *10 holding the screen in position.
