ELECTRIC SADIRON.

To all whom it may cmwem:
Be it known that we, LOUIS R. HAMLIN and Jesse JACKSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Kokomo, county of Howard, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Sadirons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in electric sad irons.
The main objects of this invention are:
First, to provide in an electric sad iron an improved terminal clip for the resistance element.
Second, to provide in an electric sad iron an improved means for mounting and insulating the terminal posts.
TLhird, to provide an improved electric sad iron in which the parts are simple and economical in structure and very easily as sembled.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

A structure which is a preferred embodiment of our invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:

Fig. IV is a detail section through one of the terminal clips, showing means for securing the terminal clip to the resistance element.

shown in separated relation to show structural details thereof.
In the drawings similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, we provide a pair of body members 1 and 2, the body member 2 being superimposed upon the body member 1, the latter being the shoe of the iron.
The heating element is shown conventionally at 4 and includes a resistance wire or element 5. The arrangement of this wire in the heating element is not shown as these details are unimportant so far as our present invention is concerned.
The upper body member 2 is provided with a recess 6 at its rear end adapted to receive, the insulating plates 7 and 8. These plates are arranged in a superimposed relation as shown in Fig. II. The lower plate 7 is provided with a hole 9, while the upper plate 8 has a slot 10 registering with the hole 9.
The screw bolt 11 is threaded into the bottom plate 1 and is provided with a clamping nut 12 for the upper body member, the upperbody member having a recess 13 for this nut. The bolt 11 extends through the hole 9 and the slot 10 to receive the clamping nut 14 by means of which the insulating plates are clamped together and secured in position.
The lower insulating plate 7 is provided with downwardly projecting lugs 15 overlapping the rear end of the upper body member 2 and with inclined grooves 16 aligned with these lugs. The upper plate is provided with lugs 17 fitting into the grooves 16 of the lower plate and with an inclined boss 18 supporting the terminal posts 19. v
The resistance wires are connected to these terminal posts by means of the clips 20 which are folded over the lugs 15 and their upper ends disposed in the grooves 16, the posts being secured to the clips at 21. The resistance wires are secured to the plates by means of the clamping tongues 22 which are folded upon the ends of the resistance wires and secured by spot-welding at 23 posts may be inserted and'clamped to the upper plate and the upper plate then slipped into position on the lower and secured by tightening the nut 14.
The several parts of our improved sad iron are simple and economical to produceand are very easily assembled.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In an electric iron, the combination of a body comprising a pair of superimposed members, the upper of which is recessed at its rear end, a heating element interposed between said body members and comprising a resistance wire, resistance wire terminal clips having bendable portions, terminal posts to which the bendable portions of said terminal clips are, secured, superimposed insulating plates disposed in said body member recess, the lower plate having a hole therein and the upper a slot registering with the hole, the lower plate having downwardly projecting lugs at its rear end overlapping the rear end of the upper body member and inclined grooves aligned with its said lugs, the upper plate being provided with lugs projecting into said grooves and with an inclined boss through which said terminal posts are, disposed, said terminal clips being folded over the lugs on the lower plate and extended into the grooves thereof, and a clamping bolt connecting said body members and projecting through said registering hole and slot in said insulating plates and provided with a clamping nut engaging the top late. p 2, In an electric iron, the combination of a body comprising a pair of superimposed members, the upper of which is recessed at its rear end, a heating element interposed between said body members and comprising a resistance wire, resistance wire terminal clips having bendable portions, terminal posts to which the bendable portions of said terminal clips are secured, superimposed insulating plates disposed in said body member recess, the lower plate having downwardly projecting lugs at its rear end overlapping .the rear end of the upper body member and inclined grooves aligned with grooves thereof, and means for securing said insulating plates.
3. In an electric sad iron, the combination of a body comprising a pair of superimposed members, the upper of which is recessed at its rear end, a heating element interposed between said body members and comprising a resistance wire, resistance wire terminal clips having bendableportions, terminal posts to which the bendable portions of said terminal clips are secured, superimposed insulating plates disposed in said body member recess, the lower plate having a hole therein and the upper a slot registering with the hole, the lower plate having portions at its rear end overlapping the rear end of the upper body member, said.
terminal post being mounted on the upper plate to project therethrough, said terminal clips being folded over the rear edge of said lower plate, and a clamping bolt connecting said body members and projecting through said registeringvhole and slot in said insulating plates and provided with a clamping nut engaging the top plate.
4. In an electric iron, the combination of a body comprising a pair of superimposed members, the upper of which is recessed at its rear end, a heating element interposed between said body members and comprising a resistance wire, resistance wire terminal clips ha ving bendable portions, terminal posts'to which the bendable portions of said terminal clips are secured, superimposed insulating plates disposed in said body member recess, the lower plate having portions at its rear end overlapping the rear end of the upper body member, said terminal post being mounted on the upper plate to project therethrough, said terminal clip's being folded over the rear edge of the lower plate, and means for securing said insulating plates.
5. In an electric iron, the combination of a body, a heating element therefor comprising a resistance wire, a terminal clip or said resistance wire formed of sheet metal and having a hole therein through which the end of the resistance wire is disposed, an integral tongue folded upon the resistance wire and secured to the clip by welding whereby the end of the resistance wire is secured to the clip, a terminal post secured to said clip, and an insulating plate on which said post is mounted.
