Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 7, 1921.
Application filed November 19, 1919. Serial ll'O. 339,022.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, Lno TROUILHET, of 3 Bellecour, Lyon, France, engineer, and GASTON DUVEAU, of 1 Rue Tronchet, Lyon, France, engineer, citizens of the French Bepublic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Stoves, of which the following is a specification. V
The invention relates to improvements in electric stoves heated by electric current and its object is to provide improved apparatus of this class of simple and strong manufacture and reliable in operation.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which shows one form of construction of the improved stove.
Figure l is a plan view of the apparatus, with a portion of the so-called hot plate removed:
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the hot plate, partly broken away:
Fig. 3 is a section on a larger scale on the line A-A of Fig. l
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 13-43 of Fig. 2.
The apparatus is composed of a base a and a hot plate 0: the base, which is shown as square but may be of circular or other shape, has a central circular opening with three arms 5 projecting from its rim toward the center, but bent down to lie at a level below the top oi the base. Each of these arms has a hole 72 The hot plate 0 of circular or other shape, has an annular depending flange 0", the outer surface of which is coned in order to tit against the downwardly directed parts of the arms 5 This plate, preferably of cast-iron, is provided with three bosses registering with the holes 6 into each boss is screwed a bolt shank f.
In the space inclosed by the flange 0" lies a disk 6 of asbestos or other insulating material, in the surface of which is embedded an electric resistance j of the length required.
Against the under surface of this disk is held a cast-iron disk cl having three holes (Z for the bosses c with sufficient clearance to allow of expansion. A sheet of mica is interposed between the insulator c and the hot plate 0.
The electrical connections to the resistance are made by the means shown-in Fig. 4:. The resistance has terminal studs 70 projecting through the disk 6. Below each of these studs the disk 61 carries a flanged depending tube Z externally screw-threadedto receive wo nuts n, which fix the tube and between which an electric wire is pinched. Into the tube is screwed a screw m whose upper end makes contact with the stud 7c. The several electric wires are connected to the terminals 39 on the base.
When the hot plate, with associated parts, is placed on the base, the bolt shanks f pass through the holes 6 in the arms 6 and nuts 9 are screwed on to make the plate fast.
Insulating washers h are inserted between the arms 5 and the nuts 9 and disk d in order to avoid short circuits.
It is seen that all the elements composing the apparatus are interchangeable and that they are very easily mounted and dismounted.
The sizes and shapes may be varied, as also the details of construction.
What we claim as our invention and de-,
sire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In an electric stove the combination of a pedestal having an aperture in its upper part and arms bent downward from the rim of said aperture and extending across the same, said arms having bolt holes, a horizontal hot plate having near its rim a pendent flange adapted to enter said aperture above said arms and having downwardly directed bosses, an insulating plate under said hot plate within said flange, having holes for said bosses, an electric resistance embedded in said insulating plate and havterminal studs protruding from the under surface of said plate, a plate under said insulating plate, having holes for said bosses and holes located below said studs, pendent tubes inserted into the last mentioned holes, having flanges retaining them in said holes, contact screws in said tubes, abutting against said studs, bolts passing with clearance through the bolt holes in said arms and screwed into said bosses, and insulating washers embracing said bolts above and below said bolt holes.
2. The combination claimed in claim 1, together with a sheet of mica interposed between the hot plate and the insulating plate.
3. In an electric stove the combination of a pedestal having an aperture in its upper part and arms bent downward from the rim of said aperture and extending across the same, said arms having bolt holes, a hot plate adapted to enter said aperture above said arms and having downwardly directed bosses, an insulating plate under said hot plate having holes for said bosses, an electric resistance embedded in said insulating plate and having terminal studs protruding from the under surface of said plate, a plate under said insulating plate, having holes for said bosses and holes located below said studs, insulated contact devices in the last mentioned holes, and bolts passing through the bolt holes in said arms and screwed into 7 said bosses.
In Witness whereof We have signed this specification in the presence of two Wit- 15 nesses.
