CIGARETTE-DISPLAY GAJBIENET.
.llpplicatiomfiled July H,
To all 1.0 ham it may concern.
Be it known that l, Pnrnn Manaoos, a subject of the King of Greece, and resident of Connellsville, county of Fayette, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Display Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates broadly to store fixtures, and more specifically to a case or cabinet for cigarettes; and it has for its primary object to provide a cigarette display cabinet or container for tobacconists and dealers use, which is divided into a plurality of compartments adapted to receive large numbers of cigarette packagesfin stacked relation with difierent brands occupying separate compartments.
A further object is to provide a cabinet of the character mentioned having a shiftable glass front which may be kept in a closed position in which access to said compartments, except at the extreme lower ends of the lat ter, is prevented, said extreme lower ends being open to the extent that the lowermost package only of each compartment is exposed in a position affording convenient access for withdrawal.
A still further object is to provide a cabinet which embodies means whereby the cigarettes contained thereby may be maintained in a moist condition.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the features of construction and arrangement of parts which will hereinafter be fully described, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention with the glass front occupying a partially elevated position; s
Figure 2 is a partial vertical section of the same, taken on line 22, Fig. l; and- Figure 3 is an enlarged detail section of one of the rests for the glass front.
Referring to said drawings, 1 indicates the rear wall, 2 the end walls, 3 t e top, and d the base of a substantially rectangular casing. Disposed parallel to and at a short distance above the base 4 is a horizontal shelf 5 which constitutes the bottom for each of a plurality of compartments 6 formed by the provision of partitions 7 which extend vertically from the top 3 to said shelf 5. Said 1921. Serial No. 483,793.
partitions are spaced relatively to suit the width of the packages 8 which are to be received in the thereby-formed compartments.
Molding strips 9 are mounted on the front edges of the end walls 2, the same having provided therein rabbets 10 in which are received the opposite lateral edges of a verti= cally slidable glass front 11. A transverse horizontal bar or strip 12 is mounted across the front of the casing and forms a rest for the lower edge of said glass front 11, which is designed to remain in fully closed position at all times except when the compartments are being filled. The strip 12 has formed in its upper edge a rabbet 13 for the reception of said lower edge of the glass front. Said strip 12' is located above the shelf 5 a distance slightly greater than the usual thickness of a cigarette package, so that the end of the lowermost package in each of the various compartments 6 at all times remains wholly exposed and presented in position for withdrawal. To facilitate such withdrawal, each of the partitions 7 has therein between said strip 12 and said shelf 5 a recess 14: which provides for the introduction of the fingers at opposite sides of the pack age to obtain a grasp upon the letter.
A drawer-like pan or container 15 for water is slidably disposed on the base a in underlying relation to the shelf 5, and perforations 16 are provided in said shelf to permit of the passage of moisture from said container to the compartments 6, whereby the cigarettes contained-by the cabinet are kept in a suitably moist condition.
The glass front ll carries one or more lugs or lifts 19 mounted thereon at or adjacent to its lower edge whereby it may be grasped in elevating and lowering thereof. it slot 17 registering at its ends with the rabbets 10 is provided in the top 3 through which said glass front is raised and lowered. Springpressed pins 18 are provided at suitable points in the front edges of one or more of the partitions 7 for supporting the front in elevated position, as when the compartments are being filled.
What is claimed is A cigarette cabinet eomprising a casing having vertical partitions dividing said casing into a plurality of compartments, a glass front for said casing slidably mounted therein, a horizontal support for the glass front ill arranged to hold. the glass front in. a position sufficiently elevated to permit the withdrawal of one cigarette package from each compartment without moving the glass front, and spring pressed pins mounted in the vertical partitions and normally held in retracted position by the glass front when said glass front is in position on said hori-'
