Be it known that I, ANsEL FREELAND, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Nevada, Story County, Iowa, have invented a new and useful Display Container, of which the following is a specification.

An object of this invention is to provide an improved construct-ion for a display container for the display of vegetablesand fruit conveniently for examination'by a purchaser and handling by a salesman.

A further object of this invention is to provide an improved construction for a display container to hold and display vegetables and fruits and having a partition dividing the container into compartments, a large one for storage and a small one for display. I

Still a further object is to provide a display container constructed so that a small portion of the commodity therein can presenta relatively large display surface whereby the display compartment willstill remain full when most of the commodity has been removed from the storage compartment.

My invention consists in the construction,

arrangement and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claim and illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in Which I Figure 1 is a front elevation of a counter containingmy improved display container. Figure a is a perspectiveview of my improved display containen 'A counter 10 may be used for supporting a battery of my display containers 25 and may be of any desired dimensions; such as the one illustrated which is of greater height than Width and has its length divided into substantially equal units of structure, each of the units being further subdivided into compartments. p

In the construction of the counter 10 as shown a series of compartments 23 and 24 are provided for receiving the containers 25. The sills 12 provide supports and slide-ways in the bottoms of the compartments 23, 24, for the containers 25, which are slidably mounted thereon. Other compartments 22 may also be provided for market basketsor other containers 32 which rest on a horizon tal partition 14. A counter top 21 may be placed on top the counter10 through which the contents of the container 32 may be viewed. such as potatoes, yams, onions, carrots, cabbage, and thelike, may be contained in heaping measure in the containers 25, and said containers slidingly mounted on the sills 12 and within the com artments 23. and 24, the wallsv 26 abutting the upper inner edges of the base board 16 and extending outwardlyover said base board in such manner as to present the contents at one side of the partition- 29 for convenient view and inspection by a customer in front of the counter and to present the contents at the'other side of said partition, the rear side thereof, for convenient handling by a salesman or clerk. The customer may well be served with articles" removed from the container at the rear of the partition 29 and, when that portion of the container is emptied it will be replen ished by articles moving by gravity beneath and rearwardly of said partition. The containers may be removed and replaced selectively by manual movement on the slideways or sills 12 for exchange or replenishing.

The inclined rearend portions of the 'containers 25 extend rearwardly of the counter 10 for the convenience of salesmen; The slanting front wall 26 of the container 25 and the top of the partition 29" being higher than the top of the wall 26 allows a relatively small quantity of the contents of the container to present a relatively large display surface to the customer. Therefore, the display compartment 25 will remain full ex- 'cept when the last small quantity of the contents remains to be sold. The inclined rear wall 27 facilitates scooping the contents of the container 25 from thestorage compartment 25 Some changes may be made in the construction, and arrangement of the various parts of my invention, without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my inventiom and it is my intention to cover by my claim, any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents, which may be reasonably included within their scope.

I claim my invention:

A display container including a bottom, side walls and end walls, the end walls of said container being inclined upwardly and outwardly from the bettom, a partition niemher extended between the side walls and se cured thereto said par ition member being spaced above the bottom of the container and dividing the container into compartments so that commodities from one compartment can pass into the other below said partition, the top of said partition being substantially higher than the tops of said end walls, said sidewalls being of the same height as said partition at the points Where said partition is secured thereto and slanting down in both directions from said points so as to be the same height as the end walls at the points where said end walls are secured thereto, one compartment being comparatively small relative to the other so that it can be used as a display compartment and the large coinpartinent can be used as storage compartment. 7 I
