Be it known that we, JACOB L. CELANE and Dxvn) STEINBERG, both citizens of the -lllnited States, and residents of the city of New York borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Advertising Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in advertising devices and it pertains more art-icularly to devices of this character which) are illuminated.

It is one of the primary objects of the invention to provide revolving means moving in the presence of illuminating means to cast shadows of various images upon a reflecting surface in such a manner that the images will move relatively to the reflecting surface.

It is a further object of the invention to so construct a device of this character that the revolving member is operated by the heat thrown off.from the illuminating means.

It is a further object of the invention to form one Wall of the fire-proof box with a projecting surface upon which the several objects are projected, said projecting surface beingv of a transparent nature.

l' ith the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of an advertising device constructed in accordance with the presentinvention;

Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates a lamp-box, and 6 -designates the front Wall thereof. This front wall is formed of glass or any other suitable transpartent material, and the upper portion thereof designated by the reference character 7 is frosted, the lower portion designatedA by the reference character 8 being non-transparent for the purpose of carrying any suitable advertisement. The rearwall 9 of the box is in the form of a door hinged as at 10 and provided with a suitable operating means 11 and securing means 12 by means of which the door may be, operated and retained in closed position.

Mounted within the box is a socket 13, and carried in said socket is an electric lamp 14.

The feed wires 15 of the electric lamp are led in through an opening 16 in one of the side walls of the box as more clearly shown in Fig. 2. Mounted upon the electric lamp 14 is a revolving member 17, the lower end 18 of which is open. The upper4 end of this revolving member 17 is closed by a whirligig 19, said whirligi 19 comprising a body portion .cut to provide blades or the like 20. At the diametrical center of this whirligig 19, a porcelain bearing member 21 is secured, and said member 21 has a recess 22 adapted to receive the knob or projection 23 of the electrie lamp'14. By this construction, the revolving member17 is mounted rupon the electric lamp 14,l and the heat of said lamp passing through the whirligig 19 causes thev member 17 to revolve. 'v

From the foregoing it is apparent that so long as the lamp 14 is turned on, the member17 will continue to operate, and the several pictures 26 will be projected upon the surface 7 in rotation as the member 17 revolves. lt is obvious, therefore, thatthe present invention provides a moving sign in which a. motor for operating the moving parts is dispensed with, the heat from the illuminating lamp being employed for the purpose.

Further` it will be noted that by the use of a porcelain, glass, or other hard bearing member 21, the friet-ion between the bearing y member 21 and the lamp is great-1y reduced, thus increasing the eiciencyjlof the revolvin member 17. e claim: Y

In an advertising device, a lamp box having a glass side wall, said glass side wall having an upper frosted area and a lower opaque area, said opaque area providing display space for advertising matter, a. lamp flected on the frosted area of the glass wall y' of the box, and means associated with said hood for rotating the same under the influence-of the heat generated in said lamp.
