DEVICE FOR FACILITATING THE CUTTING 0F ADHESIVE PLASTERS.
Application filed March 23 To all whom it may cancer 1t Be it known that l, Uninn liooNn, a citizen oi? the Jnited States, residing in the city o1 St. Louis and State of lilissouri, have invented certain new and useful improve ments in Devices for Facilitating the Cutting of Adhesive Plasters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for tacilitating the cutting of adhesive plaster.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a template tor use in hospitals and the like, whereby sheet adhesive plaster may be conveniently and accurately out into strips of proper length and width.
A further object of tl e invention is the provision of a template for use in the above described manner, which is divided into a plurality of subdivisions of varying widths and lengths; and which includes a means to facilitate removal of any of the strips of plaster after cutting of the same.
Other objects and advantages will be parent during the course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several. views,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved template showing the relation. 01" certain sections of the frame.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the an proved template showing the opposit side to that shown in the view above de cribed.
Figure 3 is a plan view of one side of the template showing the method of applying the sheet adhesive plaster thereto, and the manner of cutting the same into strips.
Figure l is a cross sectional. view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 8.
Figure 5 is afragmentary cross sectional view talren on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the letter A. designotes the body of the template having the wings B mounted upon the longitudinal edges thereof as by hinges C. The body section A and wings may of course, be oi the same material, such as wood, or cast metal, and the template is preferably in the form of a flat tablet and is relatively shallow in depth.
The body section A has a side 10 thereof provided with a plurality of parallel and template A.

said
of the bly provided with a single longitudinal groove 12 uniformly spaced grooves 11, grooves 11 extending transversely The side 10 prefera which intersects the grooves 11 at exactly right angles. It is to be understood, in this connection, that any number of longitudinal grooves 12 may be provided upon the face 10, the width of the template Prof course, being limited only to the requirement of the particular sheet of adhesive plaster which is to be sub-divided into strips. By this arrangement of grooves, the face 10 is subtivided into a plurality of sub-divisions 14: which are all of uniform length and width. It i not the desire to limit the length or width of thestrips, but merely to provide the face or side 10 with the uniform subdivisions 14.
The opposite side 15 of the template A, is provided with a plurality of grooves 16 which extend longitudinally of the template A, and are provided at varying distances upon the side 15. Transverse grooves 17 are provided in the side 15 and which transverse grooves need not be placed at any particular place upon the side 15, it being merely necessary that the grooves 17 intersect the grooves 16, at exactly right angles. In this manner the side 15 is divided into a plurality of subdivisions 18, of varying widths and lengths. It is not the purpose of this invention to limit the length or width to any particular dimension, it being the purpose of providing the side 15 into subdivisions of varying width and length.
In order to facilitate removal of the strips 19 of adhesive plaster, which has been cut according to the face 10 of the template A, the wings B have been provided as hereinbe'tore mentioned, and which wings B are hingedl connected upon the side 15 of the template A by means of the hinges C. The wing sections B are of course,.relatively narrow in width, and are of the same length as the section A, said wings B being of similar formation They are provided with transverse grooves 22 upon their top faces 23, and which grooves 22 throughout the length of the wings B, and are adapted to align with, and co-act with the transverse groove 11 upon the face 10 of the template body A.
Thus in cutting a sheet of adhesive plaster D into uniform strips as defined upon the face 10 of the template A, the said sheet 01 uniformly spaced;
adhesive plaster D is placed upon the f: s id and 25 or the s ciioi s l-r and l, ,ring
of course understood that the been placed in alignment with When in this position, a knife blade or similar tool is inserted at different places tln'oughout the adhesive plaster and guided in its movement, by the respective grooves 19:. iii l and In this manner the sheet D is divided into strips of exactly the same length and widtu. The adhesive plaster is prethave erably placed upon the plate 10 with the adhcsive surface of the same in contact with the face 10 and having the lateral edges there-- of overlapping the sides or the section A and upon the lateral wings B for a short distance, preferably about one-eighth of an inch, i -Litter the sheet of adhesive plaster has been subdivided as above set forth the wings B are swung downwardly upon their hinges C, thus leaving the lateral edges 25 of the strips 19 projecting for slight distance beyond the edge or the body template in This edge 25 can be grasped by the person desiring to use a strip of plaster and the strips can be removed from the various subdivisions 14 as desired.
A number of ways could of course be de vised, to facilitate the removal oi the strips after they have been out. It has, however, been the purpose of this invention, to specifically provide the wing G for removal of the strips 19, which have been out upon the face 10.
When placing a strip of adhesive plaster l) upon the side 15 of the template A, the blade of a knife or similar instrument is run through the longitudinal and lateral grooves 16 and I? and. said sheet of a lhesive plate D is subdivided into a plurality of strips 27 of varying width and length. To facilitate the removal of the strips 27, the subdivisions 18 upon the face 15 have each been provided with a recess 28 upon an end thereof, and which recesses 28 are struck inwai lly "from the sides of the transverse grooves 17. These 28 can of course be arcuate in forgrooves mation and a pair o'li grooves 28 can be formed in adjacent subdivisions 1S simultaneous v by an. ordinary boring tool. When formed in this manner the cont-our as defined by the adjacent recesses 28 will of course, be substantially circular in forma tion. It may be mentioned in this connection that the wings B in reality, perform no lunction in the outing or removal of the strips 527 from the side However, grooves 29 have been provided therein transversely, adapted to align with the grooves 17 on the side 15.
Various other means could of course be designed to effect removal of the strips 19 and 2'? after they have been cut and it is to be understood, that various changes in the connected t arrangement of parts, may ror t 1e form of the invention hereshown and described, without departing tr-om the spirit of the invention or scope of l' claim:
a As an article of manufacture, a template having uniformly spaced grooves upon one side thereof, and variably spaced grooves upon the other side.
As an article of manufacture, a template having a plurality of parallel grooves upon one side thereof, dividing that side into raised subdivisions of uniform width, and the other side thereo'l having a plurality of oarallel grooves dividing the same into raised subdivisions of varying width.
3. As an article of manufacture, a template having a plurality of spaced grooves in one side thereoi runnin longitudinally and transversely to divide said side into uniform subdivi ons, and said other side having plural y of spaced grooves therein running longitudinally and transversely of said templ ie to divide said side into a plurality of subdivisions of varying widths.
