a composition. At diametrically opposite pomts recesses 16 are provided inthe sides a Be it known that we, ALBERT P. Knesor periphery of the stopple' l3.
'rnnarnnn and Hues U. R. Luann, citizens of Germany, residing at Hoboken, in the Asuitable lock or fastener for the stopcou'nty of Hudson and StateofNewJersey, ple13 is provided as at 17, beingbest dehave invented certain newanduseful Im- "tailed in Figure 3. provements in a stopple; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full clear, and a exact description of the invention, such as ill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 17
This invention relates to a stopple or closure for bottles and like receptacles.
An aim is to provide a stopple which may sllient eyelets at 21 and extended upwardly to be used and reused and still maintained in form mounting arms 22 which cross the arms 20 and the loop 18 at a right angle and extend above the latter; The arms 22 have inwardly extending pintles at 23 which are disposed within the recesses 16 loosely or pivotally. The lock or fastener 17 is maintained attached to the stopple 13 through the resiliency of the lock and its engagement with the stopple at the pintles 23.
After the stopple 13 has been applied to the bottle 10, the lock or fastener is in the position shown in Figure 2. From that position, it is urged downwardly and inwardly toward the bottlewhereby the loop l8 will bear against and resiliently engage the shoulder 12, limiting movement of the lock to such a position where the arms 22 are truly vertical where a downward pressure on the stopple 13 will be applied eflectively'and evenly. The loop 18 thus serves a to resiliently and urgently maintain the stop 90 ple 13 in engagement with its seat. In order to remove the stopple 18 it is merely necessary to displace the loop 18 by moving the same out of'engagement with the shoulder 12 for instance through pushing movement applied at the coils l9.
As merely one practical. embodiment of the invention has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details may be resorted to provided they fall Within the spirit and scope thereof defined by appended claims.
We claim as our invention:
l. A closure consisting of a stopple, a fas- "tener pivotal-1y connected therewith, and a resilient attaching arm for contact with an abutment on the article to be closed crossing the fastener intermediate the fulcrum thereof and opposite ends thereof.
2; A closure consisting of a stopple,
of directly is avoidec.
A further important object is to provide such a stopple having a novel bail or lock :manufacturable from single strand of rewire, and adapted tojcooperate with a shoulder on the bottle neck.
Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating In said drawings zy Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view illus trating the bail 0r lock in an open position;
' Figure 3 isa detail perspective View of the bail or look and i Figure 4; is adetail perspective view of Like referencecharacters designate like or similar parts in different views.
To facilitate an understanding ofthe invention, a bottle has been fragmentarily shown at 10 having its neck about the mouth a shoulder at12. This bottle is to be taken as a conventional of a bottle but of a reon, not only ceptacle generally, for instance a ar. The
any general shape, having for instance a deportion 14- adapted to A suitable washer or may be of rubberfor between the mouth of the bottle andthe stopple 13. Said stopple 13 may be made of any appropriate material for instance wood, metal, glass, porcelain or enterthe bottle neck gasket as at 15, which a his tener arm extending from the stopple, and a resilient attaching arm for the fastener for contact with an abutment on the article to be closed and yieldable in a direction substantially longitudinally of the fastener.
8. A closure consisting of a stopple, a fastener having an arm pivoted to said stopple, and the fastener having; a resilient attaching portion for contact with an abutment on the article to be'elosedcrossing said arm intermediate its ends. a
l. A closure consisting of a stopple, a fastener therefor having an armpivoted thereto a second arm, said second arm extending from the first arm and at an angle thereto, and a loop extending from the'second arm across the first arm intermediate the second .arm and the "fulcrum of the fastener for contact with an abutment on the article to be closed, and said loop being yieldable in a 1 ssess direction substantially longitudinallx of the first mentioned arm,
5. A closure consisting of a stopple, a his tener therefor, said fastener being constructed of a single strand of wire and having an attaching loop intermediate its ends, arms substantially parallel with said loop coils at the junction of said arms and loop, attaching arms extending from said arms and at an angle thereto across the loop and pintles on the attaching arms above the loop and pivotally connected to the stopple.
In testimony whereof we arlix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
