GAUNTLET GLOVE.
Application filed November 20, 1920. Serial No. 425,485.
To aZZwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro R. G. MUHLEN- BRUOH, citizen of the United States, residing at Decatur, in'the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gauntlet Gldves, of which the following is a specifisave expense to the user of gauntlet gloves by permitting the same pair of gauntlets to be used on successive pairs of hand covering portions, it being well recognized that much waste has been encountered in the past by the discarding of gaunlets as an incident to the wearing away of the hand covering portion, which, latter always becomes impaired or worn out long before the gauntlet. The detachability of the ,gauntlet with reference to the hand covering portion also adapts the gauntlet for use with various types of hand covering portions, for example, light or heavy, dependent upon the desirability under changing weather conditions or character of use. r The preferred embodiment of the invention comprises a wristless hand covering portion associated with a gauntlet of the usual stiff or heavy character relative to the material of the hand covering portion, the gauntlet carrying as a part thereof a goose neck or highly flexible intermediate or wrist portion adapted to constitute a con tinuation of the wristless hand covering portion, the marginal part of the goose neck and the adjoining part of the hand covering portionjhaving correlated elements permitting the 'two to be detachably'connected to constitute the desired gauntlet glove when in service; and the gauntlet with its flexible wrist portion or goose neck, and
also the adjoining part of the hand covering portion being formed with aligned gores to funtionall perform as a contlnuous flexible gore w en the parts are operatively brought together. w 1 The above mentioned p erferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanyingv drawings forming part here'- of, and the details will be readily understood from the specific description hereinv after contained when read in connection with such drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the complete gauntlet glove, thehand covering portion being shown as separated from the goose neck or wrist portion of the gauntlet to better illustrate the construction.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the gauntlet taken on the line A-A of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view on the line BB of Figure 1; and,
Figure 4.- is a similar sectional view showing the hand covering portion detachably secured to the flexible goose neck or wrist portion of the gauntlet.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, 1 represents 'a gauntlet of heavy comparatively stiff formation, formed of leather or reinforced ,fabric folded upon itself as at 2, the opposite edges being relatively free and connected by an intervening flexible gore 3 extending longitudinally thereof to the lower edge of the gauntlet to provide ease and comfort b allowing for the opening of the gaunt et and flexible adjustment thereof to the wearer. Projecting from the bottom edge of the gauntlet, as just described and carried by the gaunlet as a part thereof, is a member which I have technicallystyled a goose neck, the same being a highly flexible intermediate or wrist portion 4:, preferably of a light, flexible material, sucln as thin, soft leather, this neck portion being of substantial length to provide ample relative freedom of movement of the gauntlet proper and the hand coverin portion to be referred to.
ithin the goose neck 4 and stitched therearound I provide an attaching strip 5 for illustration the conventional spring ball and socket clasp, the same being intended to secure the mouth or open end part of the hand covering portion in place.
3 represents a gore formed in the goose neck'or wrist portion 4 as a continuation of the gore 3 in the gauntlet proper;
8 represents the hand covering portion,
' preferably shortened with respect to the love to constitute what I have the parts are assembled to constitute a continuation of and the lower terminal part of the gore previously referred to as represented at 3 and 3'.
Preferably the open end part of the hand covering 8 is provided with button holes 9, equal in number to the separable fasteners 6 and 7, these button holes being designed to receive the'ball elements 7 when the wristless portion of the hand covering is" inserted in the space between the securing strip 5 and the depending or apron portion of the goose neck' or wrist portion 4, and the spring ball elements 7 engaged after the customary manner with their complemental socket 1 members 6.
When the parts are assembled as thus pointed out I provide a gauntlet glove capable of every service expected of an article of this character, of easy adjustment, ample flexibility, and of-satisfactory protection to the hand, wrist and sleeve of the user.
While I have herein specially defined the details employed in the preferred embodiment of the invention it will be understood that said invention may be embodied in other forms as may be embraced within the scope of the hereto appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, What I claim is:
In combination with a wristless hand covering portion, a gauntlet of relatively heavy or stiff material carrying as a part thereof a highly flexible wrist portion permitting relative movement of the hand covering portion and gauntlet proper when in use, and complemental detachable parts on the hand covering portion and the wrist portion for fastening them together, the gaimtlet with its flexible wrist portion being provided with a flexible gore continuing along aligned edges thereof, and the hand covering portion being similarly provided with a flexible gore to register with and constitute the terminal part of said gore.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
OTTO R. s. MUHLENB-RUOH.
