UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIS R. TRASK, OF SKOWHEGAN, MAINE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-THIRD HIS RIGHT TO TILSONVH. DINSMORE, OF SAME PLAGE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CONIBlNgED SHIRT-BOSNIS AND LUNGS-PROTECTORS. y
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. lb, dated September 23,1873; application. filed June 14, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIS R. TRAASK, of Skowhegan, Somerset county, Maine, have invented a Combined Shirt-Bosom and Lungs- Protector, of which the following is a specification:
rIhis invention relates to shirtbosoms, and consists in the use, Within a pocket or lining to be attached to or formed on the back part of shirt-bosoms, of a protector made from tin, gutta-percha, pasteboard, or any convenient substance of suitable thickness and strength, and of light and desirable shape; the object of the invention being to support and keep the shirt-bosom in shape and smooth, while, at the same time, it acts, by excluding the air, as a protection for the lungs. For surnmer Wear I perforate the protectors or useY lighter material, rendering them so light as not to be objectionable, and yet have sufficient rigidity or strength to keep the bosom in proper shape. When protection for the lungs is not desired, I sometimes use a light wire-frame.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l shows back part ot' a bosom to be opened in front;
Fig. 2, similar view of bosom plain in front, and Fig. 3 shows the protector removed.
In Fig. l the pieces b b are secured at each side and form apocket for the protector C. In Fig. 2 the piece A is secured to the back ot the bosom, and serves as the pocket for the protector G. It is usually preferred to cover the material of which the protector is made with cloth, oil-silk, or chamois-skin, or any desired fabric. Y
I do not desire to limit myself to the particular shape of pockets shown for receiving the protectors, as they may be secured by straps, bands, or other shaped pockets.
Having described my invention, I claiml. A shirt-bosom provided With a pocket d Witnesses:
