`To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that T, illhinrnn SIXT, a citizen ot the United States, residing at StreaH tor, in the county ot La Salle and State of Tllinois1 have invented a new and usetul Tmprovement in Scuttles, of which the tol- `lowing is a specification. l

This invention relates to improvements in scuttles, and more particularly to a scuttle especially'adapted iorpouring cobs, coal or other material into a stove or similar device. A device embodying the features ot my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in whichm Figure 1 is a view in perspective et my improved. scuttle, Figure 2 is a view in` peru spective oi a stove, and Figure 3 is a view taken as indicated by the line 8 of Fig. 2, showing also a part oit the scuttle in section as the saine is applied to the stove when in use.

As shown in the drawings, 10 indicates in general a scuttle which may be made `in any ordinary -form. This scuttle is providedat its forward end with a pouring spout, in the usual manner, as indicated by 11. i llastenedon the outside oi" the scuttle, under the pouring spout, are two parallelyarranged straps 12. These straps are attached to the scuttle in any suitable manner, for example by means of the rivets 13. The upper ends of the straps 12 project somewhat beyond the upper edge oit the scuttle, and are bent to a substantially horirontal position, as indicated by 14k. J ust below the edge ot the pouring spout, the straps 12 are provided with `forwardly-projecting kinks as indicated by 15.

17 indicates in general a stove, which is here show provided 'with a 'feeding pouch 18. 19 indicates the lid which covers the pouch. The outside upper edge of the pouch is indicated by 20.

Tn the use ot the device, the scuttle 10 is filled with cobs or other material which it is desired to pour into the stove. The scuttle is then placed in position so that the outer edge 2O of the feeding pouch is hooked between the ends 14E and kinks 15 of the straps 12. This holds the scuttle 10 in proper relation to the pouch, so that as the back part oit the scuttle is raised, the cobs or other material will flow from the scuttle into the pouch without spilling. During all of the pouring operation, the edge 20 of the pouch remains hooked between the ends 14 and kinks 15 oit the straps 12, thus maintaining the edge ot the pouring spout on the scuttle in proper relation to the feeding pouch on the stove.

Although I have shown and described certain embodiments ot' my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of many modifications. Changes, therefore, in the construction and arrangement may be made withoutJ departing from the spirit and scope oit the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in whichit is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly possible in view of the prior art.

What T claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. ln combination with a scuttle, means adapted toengage with the edge of an openingl to maintain the scuttle in fixed relation to said` opening during the operation of pouring contents from the scuttle into the opening.

2. Tn combination with a scuttle, means adapted to engage with the edge of an opening to maintain the scuttle in iXed relation to said opening during the operation of pouringeontents from the scuttle into the opening, said means comprising strap members attached to the scuttle, said strap members being provided with parts adapted to engage with one edge of the opening.
