UNITED STATES PATEN ERNEST c. r. w. BLIESATH, or f BoTTI-.E cLosUnE.
Application mea kann 21, 1922. serial No. 545,504.
To all lwhom t may concer/n.'
Be it known that I, ERNEST C. F. W. BLlEsATH, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, residin at Kerry, in the county of Columbia an State of Oregon, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Closures; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of the specification. My invention relates to bottle closures or caps designed more particularly for bottle necks similar to milk bottles. l
The object of my invention is to provide a cap which shall fulfill all requirements of the milk bottle cap generally in use and in addition thereto provide novel means formed integral with the cap for detaching the same from the bottle neck.
My invention chiefly consists in forming a cap, embracing integral with its structure, a stiff portion, and a compressible portion adjoining the stiff portion; whereby pressure of the thumb and index fin er upon said compressible portions will a ord suiicientV space for insertion of the` thumb and finger under the stiff portion preparatory to lifting the cap from the bottle neck.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a front elevation in vertical section showing the neck of a bottle with my cap in position and showing in dotted lines the depressible portion of the cap, depressed. Fig. 2 is a top lan view of the top of .the cap. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the bottom o'f the cap, the dotted lines showing the relative positionsV of the upper vand lower compressible portions of cap.
Referring to the drawings 10 denotes the cap or closure formed of twin discs, an upper disc 11 and a lower disc 12. Each of said discs are formedwith a diametrical stiff portion 13 and 14 respectively, differing in proportions. 15, 16, 17 and 18 denote the compressible portions also diering in portions and positioned on opposite sides of said stifil portion. Said discs are adhesively connected to form the cap mounted one over 50 the other as shown in Fig. 1, the stiff and depressible portions assuming the relative positions. shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The depressible portions of thelower disc are largerl as shown in full lines in Fig. 3, and the stiff portion 14 of the lower disc is narrower than stiff portion 13 of the upper disc. By this construction, I ai'ord aV lap joint connection therebetween said depressible and stii" portions as shown in Fig. 1.
U It is therefore apparent that my closure tightly seals the liquid in the bottle and at the same time provides easy and positive means for removing the same from the bottle neck.
Claim:
A bottle cap comprising a disc formed of a plurality of plies, a pair of cuts in the ply at one side of the disc and a pair of cuts in the ply at the opposite side of the disc spaced at different distances apart from the first mentioned pair of cuts.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I aiix my signature.
ERNEST C. F. W. BLIESATI-I.
