A represents theimproved table which-is made according to well-known construction, but preferably circular in shape. The table comprises a. top # 10 which is formed of two sernucircular portions ll and 12provided with the usualflannular fi ange lil which is also made oftwosections, each fastened to one of the semi-circular members 11 and 12.

The standard 19 is providedat its upper end with a board21 extending transversely of the table and ,securedto the standard 19 by means of asquared extension22 extending in a recess provided on thetop part ofthe standard.
The board 21 is provided at either end with brackets 23 and 2 1 suitably secured thereto at 25 and each being securely fastened as at 26 intermediate of the length of'two flexible metallic strips 27 and28.
The metallic strips 27 'and28 are designed to slidably extend within the fingers 15 and 16 -,of the supporting membersplt carried by the table sections 11 and 12 adjacent to the annular flange 13. Obviously, by meansof this arrangement,wl1en the two sections 11 and 12 of the table are pulled apart, the stationary, and
.the free ends of the. two metallic strips 27 and '28isliding within the supporting memhere 14 will bear against the inner face of the annular flange 13 and thus be permanently tight against the same.
The two metallic strips 27 and 28 being normally straight, are forced to assume a semi-circular form when in engagement with the fingers of the supporting members 14 by the annular flange 13 against which the two strips are in bearing engagement.
The board 21 supports a draw bar 29 which extends at right angles thereto intermediate of its length and is formed in its inner face with a longitudinal groove 30 designed to slidably engage ribs 31 and 32 provided. on the underface of the two : able sections 11 and 12, respectively. Further, the underface of the portions 11 and 12 of the table are each provided with a pair of rails 33 and 34, each of which extend adjacent to and parallel with the ribs 31 and 32 and are designed to engage the upper or flanged edge of the draw bar 29 formed by the longitudinal groove 30. This arrangement strengthens the table and prevents the two portions 11 and112 from deviating laterally when the same are drawn apart.
The ends of the draw bar 29 are formed with notches 35 and 36 in which are mounted two pulleys 37 and38. The pulley 37 is engaged by a flexible element 39 which has I one of its extremities anchored as at 40 to one of the rails 33 provided on the underface of the table portion 11, while the other extremity of the flexible element 39 is anchored as at 41 to therail 34 provided on the table section 12. I I
The pulley 38is also engaged by a flexlble element 42 which has one of its extremities secured to the table section 11 at 40 while its remote extremity is anrhored at 41 on the table section 12. This obviously will limit the outward sliding movement of the two portions of the table, and will prevent the same from becoming disengaged.
The gap formed when the two sections 11 and 12 are drawn apart, is designed to be bridged by a series of extension pieces or boards 43 which are each formed intermedite of their length on its lower face with a transverse rib 44 designed to engage the groove 30 of the draw bar 29, which will securelv retain the boards43 in position, These bo rds will be prevented from tilting as their outer ends will be supported by the mel ic strips 27 and 28.
W hen the extension pieces 43 are not used, the two sections 11 and 12 of the table are forced together, and may be locked in this position by means of locking members 45 and 46 located at either side of'the section 11 of the table and designed "to engage with slots 47 formed in the flange 13 of the portion 12 of the tab e adjacent to the top 10 thereof.
V Vhen this table is in use anditis desired to extend the same so as to provide'a longer table, the portions 11 and 12 are drawn apart, the leg support 18 remaining stationary. The sections 11 and 12 will slide on the metallic strips27 and 28 which will extend through-the supporting members 14 and, in this action, the intermediate por tions of the two metallic strips 27 and 28 will be held in straight position, while the outer ends thereof will be curved in their engagement through the members 14 with the annular flange 13 of the table sections. The outer ends of the metallic strips'thus being held in tight engagement with the annular flange 13, the two sections of the table will be firmly held in position.
A further means of securing the table sections in position and preventing the same from any lateral movement is provided by the arrangement of the grooved draw bar which is in engagement with the ribs 31 and 32 and the rails 33 and 34 provided on the two sections of the table; also the arrangement of the flexible elements 39 and 42 with the pulleys 37 and 33 will limit the outward movement of the sections 11 and 12 of the table and prevent the two sections from becoming disengaged from the draw bar 29.
WVhen the sections 11 and 12 have been pulled apart, the required number of extension boards43 are filled in, the rib 44 thereof being engaged by the revealed portion of the groove 30, while the outer ends of the boards will be supported by the straight part of the strips 2' 7 and 28.
lVhena large tble is not needed, the extension boards 43 are removed and the portions 11 and 12 of the table being brought together in engagement and locked in this position by means of the locking members and 46 being brought into engagement with the slots 47 provided on the flange of the table. If desired and to prevent the free ends of themetallic strips 27 and 28 from catching on theinner surface of the annular flange 13, the said outer ends may be deflected to a slight degree as shown at 48 in Figure 4 of the drawings.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is: p
1. An extension table comprising a circular top and an annular flange, the top and flange being formed of two semi-circular length to the leg support, a draw bar carried by the leg support provided with a longitudinal groove, extension pieces for the table, and a rib extending across each extension piece designed to engage the groove, as and for the purpose described.
2. An extension table comprising a circular top and an annular flange, the top and flange being formed of two semi-circular sections, a leg support for the table, metallic strips slidably located on the inner side of the annular flange, means to support the metallic strips and retain them in close engagement with the flange, angle braces securing the strips intermediate of their length to the leg support, a draw bar carried by the leg support provided with a longitudinal groove designed to be in sliding engagement with ribs carried by the top sections, extension pieces for the table, and a rib extending across each extension piece designed to engage the groove, as and for the purpose described.
3. An extension table comprising a circular top and an annular flange, the top and flange being formed of two semi-circular sections, a leg support for the table, metallic strips slidably located on the inner side of the annular flange, means to support the metallic strips and retain them in close engagement with the flange, angle braces se-' curing the strips intermediate of their length to the leg support, a draw bar carrled by the leg support provided with a 1ongitudinal groove designed to be in sliding engagement with ribs carried by the top sections, extension pieces for the table, a rib extending across each extension piece de signed to engage the groove, and means on the draw bar to limit the outward sliding movement of the table.
