HUNTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State f Ohio,.have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension b'tocks for Plumb Levels, of which the following is a specification.
This is a divisional. application einbracing subject matter shown and claimed -in the application filed June 17, 1920, Serial No. 389,434.
The invention relates to a easing forming a Cover for a stock and which in open position, to expose the dial, forms end extensions for the stock.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter set forth. pointed out in the claim and shown in the aocomi'ianying drawingv` in which:
Figure l is a roar face view of the stock and casing, showing` the latter partly extended.
Figure 2 is a section on the line :2 2 of Fig. l.
In the drawingl designates the stock, usually of wood, V'and f2 the slidable metal oasings that form a boxv or cover for the stock, when iny closed position. These :asings are provided with tongues 8 that slide in suitable grooves in the upper and lower edges of the stock.
At each end the stock is provided with a bore t and the casing ends have interior, longitudinally extending pins 5 that work To lock the extensions or Serial No. 541,588.
easing in adjusted position, either open or closed, a flanged, threaded sleeve 6 is countersunk in the rear face of the stock as shown. The casings are provided with longitudinal slots 7, having beveled edges, said slots registering with the sleeves 6. Thumb screws 8 work in the sleeves and through the slots and engage and bind on the pins 5, thereby forming locking means for the casing.
The thumb pieces of the screws are bev eled the same as the sides of the slot 7 to fit snugly therein when at right angles to the slots.
The dial and other features of this invention are fully shown and described in the parent application above set forth.
What I claim is In an extensible stock for plumb levels, a body stock portion, casings carried thereby and slidable longitudinally on the body portion, said casing when in extended position forming extensions of the stock and when in closed position forming a easing enclosing the body portion, longitudinal bores formed in the end portions of the body portion, pins carried by the casings and working in the bores, said casings being lon gitudinally slotted, threaded sleeves sunk in the face of the body portion, said sleeves aligning with the bores and with the casing slots, and binding screws working in the sleeves, through said slots and adapted to engage the pins.
