M Joizei' INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Sept. 26, 1922.
UNITED STATES MER'ION JONES, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DISPLAYING DEVICE.
Application filed July 13,
To all whom it may cmwem Be it known that I, MERTON JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of' Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Displaying Devices, of which the following is a s ecification.
This invention re ates to a displaying device and has for its primary object the construction of a device of this charactercapable of readily displaying written or printed matter.
An object of the invention is the construction of a device whereby written matter or clippings may be carefully preserved and capable of being viewed when found necessary.
A feature of the invention is the novel manner of constructing and associating the parts so that access may be readily had to the various parts, and besides, a clipping or other strips of paper may be readily sealed to the indicating strip,
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Fig. 4: is a detailed view of a portion of the platform.
Fig. 5 is an edge elevation of theplat form.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one construction of my invention the numeral 1 designates a casing which may be of any configuration or size, and having an open top provided with guide flanges 2. These guide flanges slidably support a glass plate 3 so that clippings pasted to or written matter upon the top of strip 4 may be readily viewed. This strip is wrapped upon rollers 5 and 6 which in turn are supported by the bearing plate 7 mounted within the casing. Each roller has connected thereto a gear 8 connected by the endless chain 9 to a drive gear 10 mounted on a shaft 11. This shaft 11 extends exteriorly 1920. Serial No. 395,845,
of the casing and has secured thereto a.
erly holding the cli pings in flat engageuring the pasting opment with the top eration. For this purpose I have illustrated a platform13 to which are screwed the thumb screws 14 movable in the inclined slots 15 in the casing. Curved flanges 16 allow easy movement of the strip over the platform. By this construction it will be seen that. when the screws 14: are forced upwardly in the slots 15 and then clamped the platform will tightly hold the strip and its clipping in flat engagement with the glass plate so that after the pasting operation the clipping will be preferably flat and may be readily wrapped around the roller. understood that this result may be accomplished in various other manners than'illustrated. From the foregoing description it will be seen that I provide a displaying de-.
It is, of course, to be different relation and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except" as set forth in the claim hereunto appended. Having thus described my invention what I claim is In combination a casing having a transslidinto engagement with the under surface of the strip and clamped in such position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
MER'TON JONES,
