JOHN H. PECK, OF MIAMI, OKLAHOMA.
Y'UIiEtP-ROD COUNTERBALANCE.
Application filed January 14, 1922. Serial No. 529,245.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. PECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Ottawa and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pump-Rod Counterbalances, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for a pump, the general object of the invention being to provide means for raising the pump plunger and its associated parts so as to render the pumping operation easier, when done manually.
Another object of the invention is to so arrange the parts that the attachment can be adjusted to suit different sizes of pumps.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to theaccompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing the invention in use,
The remaining figures are detail views.
In these views 1 indicates a pump which includes the plunger rod 2 and the handle 3. In carrying out my invention I provide a telescopic upright 4, the upper part of which is adjustable in the lower part by means of the collar and set screw 5. The lower part is supported. in the base 6. The upright is provided with the braces 7 and a brace '7 connects the upright with the pump. A forked member 8 is seated in the upper end of the upper member of the upright and a pair of links 9 have their upper ends pivoted in said fork. A lever 10 is pivotally secured between the lower ends of said links by means of the bolts 11 which may pass through any one of a number of holes 12 in said lever. One end of this lever is pivotally connected with the plunger 2 and the other end is provided with a plurality of notches 13 upon .its upper edge. An arm 14 is adjustably clamped to the upright, as at 15, and the lower edge of this arm is notched, as at 16. A spring 17 has its ends adjustably con nected with the lever 10 and arm 14 by means of the clips 18 which are secured to the ends of the spring and have portions engaging the notches in the lever and arm. Thus the spring can be adjusted on the arm and lever.
From the above it will be seen that the spring will tend to hold the plunger rod and plunger in raised position and this spring should be adjusted so as to balance the weight of the plunger and its attached parts. Thus it will only be necessary to raise the handle to lowerv the plunger and then the spring will raise the plunger again.
While the invention is shown as arranged on a pump which is operated by hand it will of course be understood that it may be used on power operated pumps.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement ofthe several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
An attachment for a pump comprising a telescopic upright, means for adjustably connecting the parts of the upright together, links depending from the upper end or" the upright, a lever pivoted intermediate its JOHN H. PEGK.
