Be it known that l. Lewis l). TUCKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloucester, in the county ot Fssef; and @tate of Massachusetts. have invented certain new and useful ,improvements in Toilet Bowls; and. l do declare the follmving to lr-e a full, clear`y and exact description of the invention.` such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improved toilet bowl and one object of the invention is to provide a bowl having an improved construction whereby the bowl is provided with an overflow passage communicating with the outlet so that in case the outlet should become choked and the bowl filled, surplus water may pass into the overflow outlet and down into the main outlet.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the overflow outlet that a water seal may be formed therein similar to the water seal usually provided in the lower portion of a bowl.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this bowl that water may he fed into the overflow outlet from the main supply conduit and thus the water seal of the overflow outlet kept filled.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this overflow outlet that a drain may he provided for draining the water seal thereof when necessary.

Another object o'l' the invention is to so construct this bowl that the auxiliary or overflow outlet may be provided with a removable cap Ylor cleaning purposes.

provided with an outlet 2 and baffle plates or partitions 3 and 4 so that the usual sink 5 is provided for forming a water seal when this sink is filled with water as shown in Fig. The usual water inlet passage 6 is provided and also theusual annular water passage 7 and a ballie plate 6 extends downwardly in front of the main water inlet passage 6 so that water entering the bowl through this passage will be directed downwardly into the sink and out through the outlet 2. It will thus be seen that when the device is in operation, water from the res ervoir tank 9 will pass through the pipe 10 and through the inlet 6 into the bowl where it will strike the plate 8 and be directed downwardly.

It sometimes happens that the outlet passage 2 will become choked above or below the partition or baffle 4 and the bowl will then fill since Water cannot pass freely through the outlet passage 2 which causes the bowl to overflow and it is to overcome this objection that the improved construction has been provided. In order to prevent the bowl from overflowing, there has been provided an overflow passage 11 which communicates with the outlet beneath the sink as shown in Fig. 2 and extends upwardly through the rear wall of the bowl. The overflow passage ll is provided with an enlarged upper end portion whirh extends beneath and upon opposite sides of the conduit 6 through which water passes into the bowl and the baffle plate 12 is provided in the upper portion of this overflow passage as shown in Fig. 4 thus providing a sink which will lill with water and thus form a water seal. lt should' be noted that the water passage or conduit 6 is provided with an opening 14 through which water may pass to fill this sink X3 and thus insure the provision of a water seal at the upper end of' this overflow passage 11 and further that the rear wall of the sink is provided with a drain openino" normally closed by a threaded plug 15 which may be removed when it is desired to drain the sink 13 for any reason. The entrance side of this overflow sink 13 is provided with a main inlet openin 16 communicating with the bowl and with smaller auxiliary inlet openings 17 and in order to permit ready access to the sink 13 for cleaning or repairing purposes, there has been provided a removable cover plate 18 which closes the upper end as shown in Figs. l and 5 and is releaisevhly held in place by bolts or other removable fasteners i9.
