CHAR-LES A. LINDIBERG, OF STU'RG-IS, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO STURGIS STEEL GO- CART CQMTGANY, OIE STURGIS, IVEIGEIIGAN.
ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT.
Application filed. June 24, 1921.
'1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. LINDBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sturgis, county oi Saint Joseph, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Adjustable Supports, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable supports.
The main objects or" my invention are:
First, to provide an improved adjustable support for carriage tops or hoods of childrens carriages and the like which is very easily operated and at the same time is very secure.
Second, to provide an improved adjustable support for carriage tops and the like in which the parts are very simple and economical to produce and are easily assembled.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a. part of this application, in which;
Fig. I is a detail side elevation of a structure embodying the features of my invention as applied to a childs carriage, the side bar only of the carriage being shown.
Fig. 11 is an enlarged detail section on a line corresponding to line 2-44 of Figs. 1, III and IV.
Fig. HT is a vertical section on a line corresponding to line 33 of Figs. 1, H and IV.
Fig. TV is a detail inside elevation of the support removed from the carriage.
In the drawing similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Reterrin to the drawing, 1 represents the side bar or the body of a childs carriage. The body member or supporting plate 2 is provided with rea-rwardly otl'set clips 3 adapted to receive the attaching screws 4t.
A reinforcing plate 5 is provided for the bar 1. The bracket member 6 is forked at 7 Serial No. 480,105.
to facilitate the attachment of the top thereto.
The bracket member is pivotally supported on the supporting plate by means of the tubular pivot 8. The supportingplate has a hole 9 therein, while the bracket member has a series of holes 10 adapted to be brought into register with the hole 9 as the bracket member is swung on its pivot.
A stud 11 is arranged through the pivot 8 to project at the inner side or' the supporting plate. A lever-like locking dog 12 is loosely engaged on this stud and is provided with a lug 13 at its inner end engaging the hole 14in the supporting plate, so that the dog is supported for swinging movement.
The dog is provided with a pin 15 adaptet to engage the aligned holes in the bracket member and the supporting plate thereby locking the bracket member in its adjusted position. The dog is provided with a fingerpiece 16 projecting below the supporting bracket. The dog is yieldingl held in engagement by means of the spirally coiled spring 17 arranged on the stud. The stud is notched at 1.8 to receive the U-shaped retaining clip 19 which is engaged in the notches and its ends forced together, thereby retaining it in position.
My improved adjustable support is especially designed by me for use on light childrens carriages and on toy or doll carriages, it being very economical to produce, light in weight, and at the same time easily operated, and is also strong and durable. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. In a structure of the class described, the combination oii-a supporting plate, a bracket member, a tubular pivot for said bracket member carried by said supporting plate, said supporting plate being'provided with a hole at one side of its pivot and said bracket met. her being provided with a series or holes adapted to be brought into register therewith, a stud having notches in its inner end disposed through said pivot to project at the inner side of said supporting plate, a dog loosely engaged on said stud and provided with a pin adapted to engage registering holes in said supporting plate and bracket member and having a finger piece at its outer end and a lug at its inner end,
said supporting plate having an opening
