Description
A. P. STOKES.
METHOD OF PRODUCING SUSPENS ORY BANDAGES.-
; APPLICATION FILED JULY 14,1920- 1,429,545. Patented Sept 19, 1922;.
Patented Sept. 19, 1922.
ALFRED PARKER STOKES, OF ST. HELIERS, JERSEY, CHANNEL ISLANDS.
METHOD OF PRODUCING SUSPENSORY BANDAGES.
Application filed July 14,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED PARKER S'roKns, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 3 Green Street, St. Heliers, Jersey, Channel Islands, have invented new and useful Improvements in Methods of Producing Suspensory Band ages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the manufacture of suspensory bandages for mens use, and consists in a simple method of producing the same from tubular or sleeve-shaped material of the stockinette character such as yielded by a circular knitting machine.
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 represents a length of the tubular material folded fiat and cut-in such a manner as to produce two of the said bandages without waste. Fig. 2 represents one of these portions separated from the other portion. Fig. 3 represents the same piece after being out along its lower edge and opened out flat. Fig. 4 represents the same piece when in course of application, the material being of such an elastic character as to admit of any of its portions being considerably stretched.
The first operation of dividing the length of flattened tube into twoportions a a may be effected by means of a crank-shaped knife corresponding with the cutting line a: in Fig. l. T he portion which remains cylindrical is then severed along the line Y in Fig. 2. Upon being opened out the material assumes a Tform as shown in Fig. 3. The two arms i) 7) are capable of being readily stretched to two or three times their length, and of forming a band adapted. to be passed round the 1920. Serial No. 396,255.
body of the wearer and tied'in front. The middle portion 0 is then passed between the legs, the corners d (l are seizecl,'stretched apart, and secured to the front of the band previously referred to.
I claim:
1. The method of producing suspensory bandages, which consists in dividing a knitted tubular body into two like parts consistlng each of a relatively longer flat body portion and a relatively shorter tubular pordefining each a relatively longer flat body j portion and a relatively shorter tubular portion, then severing the tubular portion to define two strips extending laterally from the body portion and then stretching the strips.
:3 In a method of producing suspensory bandages, the steps which consist in cutting a knitted tubular body near its ends substantially at right angle to the body and lengthwise intermediate the cuts to form two like parts defining each a relatively longer flat body portion and a relatively shorter tubular portion and then severing the tubular portion to define two strips extending laterally from the body portion.
ALFRED PA BIKER STOKES.
