UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
COLLIN PULLINGER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN VENTILATING WlNDOW-SASHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,941, dated September 16, 1873 application filed August 13, 1873. t
T0 ail whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, COLLIN PULLINGER, of the city and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Ventilating Window-Sash; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
The invention relates to convenient modes of ventilating rooms through the windows without bringing to bear upon the persons therein a cold draft of air.
Figure l is a front elevation. vertical transverse section.
A represents a window-frame, in which a top sash, 13, having the slat blind-ventilator b, may slide or be permanently fixed. The slats are all attached to a common rod, 1), by which they may be placed obliquely, and made to exclude the light, and yet admit the air or allow its exit. 0 is a lower sliding sash separated from the sash B by an intermediate Fig. 2 is a small sash, E, which also slides over the top one.
The operation is as follows: By raising the small sash E over the sash B, and drawing down the sash B or opening the slat-ventilator b, the cold air will come in at the upper and force the warm air out at the lower aperture, a circulation being thus secured thatinsures a perfect Ventilation without bringing a draft of cold air on persons in the room. The bottom and small sash may also be raised together in'warm weather, and when a draft is not objected to.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The small sliding sash E, arranged between the upper and lower sash of a window, as and for the purpose described.
COLLIN PULLINGER.
