Application filed July 8; 191a Serial No. 309,463. iRenewedi'iyiarch s, 922. Serial-No. 542,162.
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that ALFRED J. BROWN and GEORGE I. PAULsoN, citizens-of the United States, residing at Brooklyn in the county of Kings and State of New York, have in-' vented new and useful Improvements in NonresalableBoxes, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to containers and more particularly to boxes for: the reception of confections such as candy and the like, but is not necessarily limited to this use.
1 One of the primary objects of the invention is the provision of an article of the class described rovided with means for securing the b0 y 311dCOV61.1116IHb81S together in order to prevent opening-of .the box without mutilation of the same.
Another object of the invention is the'provision of an article of the class: described which is so constructed as to readily allow container construction ofthis class.
Another object of the invention is. the provision of a device which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and which provides means for positively preventing theremoval of the contents from the box without mutilation of the same.
With these and other objects in view the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts fully described in the following description and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box.
with the device associated therewith.
Figure 2 is a detail sectional view of the same.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of one of the details of the invention.
Referring to the drawings we have shown a standard box construction which consists of a body member 10 which is provided with the usual bottom 11, sides 12 and ends 13 and secured to said bottom 11 is the supplementary bottom 14. The cover member 15 comprises the top 16, sides 17 and ends 18 and is provided with a supplementary top 19 over which is arranged the covering 20 which contains thereon-the usual advertising matter. The means for mutilating, the cover are inter-twisted as at. 23 andilare provided est s.
at their extremities with-theloops24=whichx a are engaged over cornerswofithe .supplemeng tary top 19 and normally hidden by the covering 20. The lockingdevicelincludes' a tu- Y bular threaded member 25 :which is provided with a flange, 26, having a plurality of spurs 27 upturned from itsperiph'ery. The mem-' her 25 is inserted inwa centrally arranged opening 28 priovidedin the bottom 11ofthe body portion and is covered:by thesupple Inentary bottom 1 1'. Awtubular, threaded member 29 is provided-for engagement with i the threaded portion 300i the. member "31,,
said member being provided with a threaded portion 32 at its, opposite extremitywhich engages with the member-'25. The member 29 is provided with theiresilient tongues 33 which project, inwardly and downwardly i from the interior of ,thesame for a purpose to be hereinafter-set forth Aft'erthememe .ber 25 has been secured-to the: bottom of;
the box andsupplementary bottom-14: ar ranged in place the memb er'3 1is threadedly' engaged With the same-and the member29 engaged with the member 31-1 The f contents of the box are then placed therein and the cover member arrangedthereon. Acentrally arranged opening is provided through the top 16; supplementary .top 19 and covering 20 and'a key 3 1 provided with a shank 35 is inserted through theopening and ar ranged within the tubular'member 29. De-, pressions 36 are provided in the key which are adapted to be engaged by the tongues 33 whereby the key is secured against remova from the member 29. The shank 35 is slot-, ted as'at 37 and receives the'twisted portion 23 of the fiexibleelements 21 and 22.' g It will thus be seen that in order to remove the cover fromthe body member it :is necessary to turn the key 34 in order to separate the member 29 from themember 31' and and by so doing the twisted portion 23 1s wound upon the shank 35 of the key. This operation will cause the flexing of the sup-1 plementary top 19 thus mutilating the same to such an extent as to inform a subsequent purchaser that the box has'been tampered with and inferior goods substituted forthe genuine.
While we a simple and preferred form of carrying our invention'intopractice, we do not care to be limited to the exact'details therein have illustrated and described scope of the appended claims.
WVhat is claimed as new is:
l. A container including a body member, a cover for the body member, a device including interlocking parts and a manipulator, and means connected to the manipulater for mutilating the cover upon the manipulating of-the manipulator.
2. A container including a body member and a cover therefor, a locking device for securing the body member and the cover to gether, a manipulating member adapted to form a part of the device in the securement of the body member with the cover and constituting means for unlocking the same,
and means conjoined with said cover and connected to said manipulating member for mutilating said cover upon the manipulation of said manipulating member.
3. A container including a body member and a cover therefor, locking members secured to the body member and the cover re spectively and provided with means for holding said locking members against separation, a manipulator adapted to -form a part of one of said locking members and constituting a device for separating the said members, and means conjoined with the cover and connected to the manipulator for mutilating the cover upon manipulation of the manipulator in the separation of said locking members.
4. A container including a body member and a cover therefor, means for mutilating the cover, normally connected separable means for securing the body member and. cover together, a manipulator adapted to be conjoined with said means for the securement of the body member and the cover together and constituting a device for separating the said members, the first mentioned means being connected to the manipulator for the operation thereof.
5. The combination with a container having a body member and a cover member, of means for mutilating the cover member, a separable element secured to the body member, a device adapted to engage with said element for securing the cover to the body, said device co-acting with the mutilating means whereby to destroy the cover upon manipulation of the devire to unlock said cover from the member.
6. The combination with a container 11* ing a body member anda cover member, at means for mutilating the cover member, a separable element secured to and arranged within the body member, a device adapted to engage with said element for securing the cover to the body, said device co-acting with the mutilating means whereby to destroy the cover upon manipulation of the device to unlock said cover from the member.
In testimony whereof we have affixed our signatures.
