IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BALE TIES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,802, dated September 16, 1873; application iled July 28, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OscAR R. MCCLEAN, of New Orleans, parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented a Bale-Band Fastening, of which the following is a specification:

My invention consists of a novel and useful bale-band fastening.

To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation in the drawing annexed.

Figure l represents metal as prepared by a punch from a bar of suitable thickness. Fig. 2 represents front View of fastening complete ready for use. Fig. 3 represents rear View of same. Fig. 4 represents a plan of saine. Figs. 5 and 6 represent ends of same band in the hooked' end, the fastening to be set, the other end to be bent at press to suit size of bale.

Like letters refer to like parts in each View.

The metal being prepared as Fig. 1 it is then to be forined by machine at factory as Fig. 2.

G and D, the front plate; A, guard bent over front plate to prevent C, the band of Fig. 5, from slipping to the left; B, space between two projections to rest the bend H ofthe band G of Fig. 5, and keep it from movingto either side F of Fig. l represents portion to be bent in the rear of front plate D of Fig. 2, forming the space E of Fig. 3, wherein to insert the other end of band l of Fig. 6.

The hook end of band, Fig. 5, to be used as follows, viz.: The outside of hook C to be inserted in space between guard A and front plate G, continued down until bend H rests in space 'B between projections, end O to be passed on up in rear of front plate G, to be continued some distance above the plate7 E.
