APPLICATION FILED SEPT. I3. 1920.
Patented Aug. 29, 1922.
m INVENTQR CLARENE J'. HENDRICKS, OF EERTILE, MLNNESOTA,
CLIP.
Application filed September 13, 1920. Serial No. 409,872.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
` Be it known that I, CLARENCE J. HENy onions, a citizen'ot' the United States, residing at Fertilc, in the county of Polk and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clips, ot' which the following is a specification, y
' This invention comprehends the provision of an adjustable detachable clip designed for use in conjunction with' a singletree, and equipped with a trace hook of a construction l to prevent the trace from becoming casually separated therefrom.
The nature and advantages of theinven-` tion will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the
inventionresiding in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as In the dra-wings forming partof this application like numerals ot' reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein: A
Figure 1 is a plan view of the combined clip and trace hook forming the subject Inatter of my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken therethrough with the clip associated with the single tree. -A
Figure. 3 is a front. elevation of the invention'applied to the single tree'.`
Referring to the drawings in. detail, A indicates a `single tree or the like With which the combined clipV and hook Jforming the subject matter of my invention .is adapted for use. As shown in l* igure 1 the clip is formed from a single length of material and bent to provide a substantially cylindrical portion 11 and s aced1'mrallel' extremities 12. The extremities 12 are rneferablythicker than the cylindrical portion so thatithe extremities will not be bent o r in anyway affected when the clip is tightened about the single tree. The extremities 12 are provided with i `aligned openings 13 to receive a headed bol't specification of Letters Patent.

14, the bolt having a threaded vortion within* which a nut 15 is associated. i anifestly by tightening or loosening the nuts, the terminals 1Q may be moved toward and away from each other when the occasion requires, and the diameter of the cylindrical portion varied, VIt is also obvious that the clip 'can be quickly and easily removed from the single tree when desired. The trace hook 16 is formed 'from a single length of wire o r other suitable material and having one end bent upon itself to provide an eye or loop '17 through which the bolt 14 is passed, the' latter providing the pivot for the hook, having an inclined intermediate portion l1 and the opposite extremity of the material being bent to provide an open loop 18 to permit of its association with the trace. The terminal of the open loop 18 is relatively long extendrug an appreciable distance beyond one side ot'lthe hookso as to minimize the possibilityl casually separated trace hook is very readily understood. i
simple in construction, and can be manufactured and sold at a nominal cost.
i wha@ u is believed .that from the are-.
going description the nature and advantages of the invention 4will be readily apparent, I
desire to have Vit understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described'and that-such changes may lberesorted to when desired as fall within the. scope of what is claimed.
What I- claim is:
A hook formed from a single. piece of material having one end rounded .upon itself to provide an eye, havingan inclinedint'er'mediate portion and the opposite:end-thereof. hemp` bent in4 a reverse 'direction to provide an open loop and terminating in an upward-K ly ilu-lined entension,l projecting.. over and beyond the thereof,l
v In testimony whereof I aflix my signature,
CLARENCE J. HENDRIGKS.4
