Description
W. A RUDOLPH.
- FEED HOPPER FOR POULTRY.
APPLICATION FILED APR22, 1922.
1 ,427 O2 Patented Aug. 22, 1922.
R N g gnveni'oz UNITED STATES NT FF wALLAcE A. RUDOLPH, or nnnviiinnjmmnnso m.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WALLACE A. RUnoLru, a citizen of the United States, residin at Renville, in the county of Renville and S tate of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Feed Hopper for Poultry, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to feed hoppers for poultry and the like.
The object of the invention is to provide a hopper of this character which is extremely simple in construction, which may be constructed with a minimum consumption of material, requiring a small amount of labor, thereby adapting it to be cheaply manufactured and yet is thoroughly eflic-ient for the purpose intended.
Another object is to provide a hopper of this character which may be readily disassembled for shipping or storing.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scopev of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a plan view of a hopper constructed in accordance with this invention, with parts broken out and in section; and a Fig. 2 is a central vertical section thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated, a feed hopper 1 which may be of any desired cross sectional contour being here shown circular, merges at its lower end into a funnellike chamber 2, the mouth 3 of which is designed to be spaced above a receiving tray 10 presently to be described.
The container 1, preferably has its upper edge rolled outwardly and downwardly to form a head 4. Mounted in this beaded member 4 is, a closure 5 having a laterally extending flange 6, designed to rest on the bead 4:, while an annular flange 7 carried by the inner face of the closure 5 fits within the container 1 and holds the top 5 securely against accidental removal. A hand grip or knob 5 is here shown to facilitate the application and removal of the top,

Specification orraersratent, PatQntd Au 2 9 ".I.. Application filed April 22, 1922. $eria1=No,- 555,9 7; 1 l
The container 1 is removable in a support formed of a plurality of braces 8 here shown in the form of metal strips, having their upper ends bolted or otherwise secured to a split band 9 having outturned apertured ears 9 at its ends through which a bolt 9 extends. Any desired number of these strips 8 may be employed, twelve being here shown, and they diverge from the container 1 and have their lower ends turned outwardly to form feet 8 which are bolted or otherwise secured to a flat ring 11 adapted to lie on the bottom of the receiving tray 10.
The receiving tray 10 is of a size to extend laterally beyond the plane occupied by the container 1 and is equipped with an upstanding circumferential flange 12 rolled at its upper edge to form a bead 13.
From the above description, it will be obvious that the braces 8 not only operate to support the feed container 1, but also perform the function of guards to prevent the poultry from getting into the tray which is objectionable for many reasons.
In the use of this hopper the feed is placed in the container 1 and passes down through the chamber 2, out through the mouth 3, into the tray 10 until it reaches a point in said tray sufficiently deep to submerge and seal the mouth 3 of the container.
As is shown clearly in Fig. 2, the mouth 3 of the container extends down into the tray 10, below the upper edge ofthe flange 12 thereof, so that it may be sealed in the manner above described. As the feed is consumed from the tray 10, more will pass out through the mouth 3 into said tray, and thus keep the poultry supplied until the container becomes empty.
This feed hopper being preferably constructed of sheet metal is very light and readily portable and may be easily cleaned in an obvious manner. It also may be readily knocked down for shipping or storing by loosening bolt 9 lifting the container 1 out of band 9 and then the supports, containers and trays may be nested so that a large number will occupy a comparatively small space.
I claim:
A hopper of the class described comprising a substantially cylindrical feed container having a funnel-like lower portion, a feed receiver positioned below said container sa-id receiver bei in bhe form of r a tray having an upstan ing circwnierential flange, the isebem-wdvihthe ii -sme like portion, of said container projecting into the receiver below .the stqpjlhoneof," m
ends adapted to lie on-I-the of said 10 receiver, said braces diverging and forming guafds to-f rei ent the @oiflng getting myov vnQI have hereto afiixed my signature in the pxgsgmce of two witnesses.
