IMPROVEMENT IN JOURNAL-PACKING RACKS.
Specification forming part. of Letters Patent No. 142,69S, dated Sep'ember 9, 1873; application filed June 27, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit-known thatI, WILLIAM H. HUMPHREY, of Lansingburg, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Journal-Packing Racks; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists, first, in the construction and arrangement of a journal-packing rack to be placed inside of a carjournal box; and, second, in combining with such rack au insidel plate supported upon one or more springs, all of which will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a transverse section, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, of my journal-rack.
A represents a car-journal box, and B the journal constructed in any of the known and usual ways. "Within the box A, below the journal, is placed a rack, C, made of metal or other suitable material for holding the waste D. This rack may be made in one piece, or in sections, as may be desired, and is constructed so as to form channels a a at the sides to hold the surplus oil or other lnbricatin g fluid used to feed to the waste for lubricating the journal. In the rack are a number of perforations or slots a' .'70, as shown, for the purpose of feeding the waste with oil, so that it gives a surplus of oil from the described channels a. a. Inside of the rack C is placed a perforated plate, G, supported upon one or more springs, b, for the purpose of adjusting the waste to the journal as settling or wear of the waste takes place. By this means the journal is at all times kept thoroughly lubricated, and will not heat.
