METALLIC ROOF.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 11, 1921. Serial No. 491,545.
the constituent members of-which may be welded readily, to prevent leakage. Another object of the invention is to provide a roof-forming element so constructed that the result above mentioned may be attained.
l Vith the above and other objects in'view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in plan, a portion of a blank out of which the roof-forming element is made; Figure 2 is a plan showing one end of the roof-forming element, complete; Figure 3 is an end elevation of the roof-forming element; Figure 4 is a perspective view showing howthe roof-forming elements are joined; and Figure 5 is a longitudinal section taken through two connected roof-forming elements.
Each roof-forming element is fashioned from a metal plate 1 having slits 2'in its, ends, the slits definin a tongue 3 at each end of the plate 1. Kdjacent to its longitudinal edges 4, the plate 1 is bent along parallel lines 5, spaced from the slits 2, to form longitudinal flanges 6 disposed at right angles to the plate 1. The tongues 3 are bent of form transverse flanges 7, and to form projections 8 on the body 9 of the finished article, the projections 8 being located between the ends of the flanges 7, and the flanges 6.
In practical operation, the flanges 7 of two roof-forming elements are brought into abutment as shown in Figure 4, the flanges 6 being overlapped on each other and the projection 8 of one roof-forming element bebeing overlapped on each other. of the transverse flanges 7 are spaced, as
shown at 10 1n Flgure a, from the longitudiing overlapped on the body 9 of the other roof-forming element, as shown particularly 1n F1gure'5. The parts 8 and 9 are welded together,
gether where they overlap. served that the ends of the spaced as indicated at 10 in It is to be obflanges 7 are Figure 4 from the overlapped portions of the flanges 6, to which the water form passages, through may run down the roof. I
Considered as a roof, the device forming the subject matter of this application comprises'body members 9 having transverse flanges 7 which are disposed in abutment, as shown in Figure 4, the body members having longitudinal flanges 6 which are'overlapped on each other, the transverse flanges being spaced inwardly from the ends of the body members 9, as indicated in'Figure 2, to form projections 8, Which are joined to Patented Aug. 22, 1922.
the flanges 7 are welded f together, and the flanges 6 are welded to the longitudinal flanges 6, the projections 8 f i The ends nal flanges 6 to permit the aforesaid overlapping of the longitudinal flanges 6, and to permit the aforesaid overlapping of the projections 8 of the body members 9. i
What is claimed is z- A roof comprising body members having transverse flanges which are disposed in abutment, the body members having longitudinal flanges which are overlapped on each other, the transverse flanges being spaced inwardly from the ends of the body members to form projections which \are joined to the longitudinal flanges and are overlapped on each other, the ends of the transverse flanges'being spaced from the longitudinal flanges to permit the aforesaid overlapping of the longitudinal flanges and to permit the aforesaid overlapping of the projections of the body members.
In testimony that I claim my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
