BURGLAR ALARM.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug- 15 1922.`
Application filed August 25, 1921. Serial No. 495,437. i
To aZZQ/i 710m t may concern.:
Be it known that we, Geenen Traumi FRANK, l r., and Fnnnnror; Gnnroon, citizens or the United States, and residents of Jersey City, Hudson county, and- State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and use-l ful Improvements in Burglar Alarms, or which the following is a, specilication.
Our invention relates to .that class oi burglar alarms in which the opening or closing oiE a dooror window closes an electrical circuit, in which an alarm or othersignalling device is interposed, and the invention consists in the special arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. l, is a front elevation ol' our device applied to the inside casing of a door, the electric circuit, battery and signalling device, being shown in diagram;
Fig. 2, is a side elevation partly in section, upon an enlarged scale, showingthe bolt holding the contact spring out oit engagement with the adjustable stop;
Fig. 3, is a front elevation ot the parts shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. t, is a side elevation of the device, the parts having been set by the arm upon the door being closed; I
Fig. 5, a similar view, showing the sprii'ig bolt engaging the upper end ot. the contact spring, for the purpose of allowing a person to leave the room and close the door after them; a
Fig. 6, a similar view showing the parts in the position they assume after the door has been tampered with 0r opened.
Our improved device A, consists of the back plate a, having the lower and upper lugs or projections o', m2 provided. with screw holes a3, a4, by means of which it may `be attached by screws to the door casing C.
This back plate a, is formed near its upper end with an elongated lug or projection L, having holes or recesses Z, Z for the reception of the locking bolt B, and the spring bolt B. A chain c, may be attached to the shoulder b, formed upon the upper end of the bolt B, for the purpose of preventing the said bolt from becoming lost or misplaced.
The shoulder b, formed on the upper end or' the locking bolt B, acts as a stop when in Contact with the upper surface of the lug L,
and prevents the bolt B, from dropping through the recess Z. f The spring boltB, is formed at its lower end with a shoulder b2, and at its upper end with a head or shoulder o3, between ywhich and the upper side of the lug L, a tension spring T, is interposed. The lower surface of the lug L, is i'orined with a recess Z3, :tor thereception or' the shoulder b2, when the spring bolt assumes its normal position.
Attached to and forming part or' the back plate 0;, at its lower erichextends a bracket A, in which rests an adjustable contact l?. This contact l), vis formed with a screw thread p, which engages a female screw thread formed in the bracket A', and by ywhich it may be regulated with relation to the Contact spring S.
To the lower inside face of the back plate o, is attached a contact spring S, which is insulated therefrom the insulation li The parts being in the position shown in Fig. 1,01: the drawings, the door D,'bein.0f closed and having attaehedthereto the arm( which acts as a circuit'closer and breaker, the device A, being interposed in an electrical circuit by means oi' the wires fw, w, having a battery R, and signalling device Gr. The operation is as follows A `When it is desired` to set the device, the parts being in the position shown in Fig. 4, the door D, being closed, the arm d, thereon bears against the Contact spring S, and forces and holds said contact spring S, away from the adjustable Contact P, (the adjustable contact l), having been adjusted with relation to the contact spring S), the lower end of the locking bolt B, rests upon the upper bent end or shoulder s', of the contact .the breaking of the electrical circuit, until the parts have been again restored to their normal positions. y
When it is desired to set the device by a person leaving the room or premises, and
wishing to close the door after them, the spring bolt B, is pressed downward in the lug L, with its shoulder b2, protruding 'trom the recess l, formed in the lower surface of the lug L, and the upper end oii the tension spring,` S, being formed With a catch or hook s, is brought in contact therewith and held thereon, and at the same time vhis shoulder s', holds the lockingl nut B, in position with relation to the Contact spring S, as shown in Fig. 5, oli the drawings.
Upon the door D, being again Closed, its arni d', will again torce 'the shoulder s', on the eontaet spring' S, out of engagement with the shoulder '(92, on the spring bolt B, and allov said spring bolt B, to return to its normal position. The parts are now set and ready for operation.
l* it is desired to prevent the device trom being in continual operation, the spring S, may be held out oit contact by the bolt B, as shown in Fig. 2, and so held until. it is desired. to renew the operation oi' signalling.
that We claim as our invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
l. In a device of the character designated, the combination of a bael; plate formed with a projecting,` lug having` a recess for the reception olf' a lool-ring; bolt, said locking` bolt formed with a. shoulder, a spring bolt resting,` in said lug, 'formed With a shoulder on its lower end, a spring contact attached to said back plate, but insulated therefrom, said spring Contact lorined at its upper end with a shoulder for engagement with the shoulder on the spring bolt, a bracket formed on said bael plate, and projecting there` from, and an adjustable contact mounted thereon, for the purpose described.
2. In a device of the character designated, the combination of a back plate formed with a lug or projection having a recess formed therein for the reception of a loclsing bolt formed with a shoulder upon its upper end, a spring,r bolt resting,` in said lug, Aformed with a shoulder upon its louer end, and said spring bolt having a spring interposed between the upper surface ol" the lug` and a head i'orined upon the upper end ot said sjiring); bolt, a spring Contact, attached to said baelc plate but insulated therei'roni, said springcontact vformed with a shoulder at its upper end for engagement with the shoulder on the end oit the spring contact, a bracket formed on said. back plate and projecting therefrom, an adjustable contact mounted in said bracket, said back plate formed with lugs at its upper and lower end, said lugs being formed with pertora tions for the purpose described.
