ROY M. STAFFORD, OE SOUR LAKE, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR TO LAKE TOOL COMPANY, OF
HARDIN COUNTY, TEXAS.
STANDING VALVE FOR PUMPS.
Application filed June 28,
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that ROY M. STAFFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sour Lake, in the county of Hardin and State of Texas, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Standing Valve for Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in-a standing valve for pumps. One objectof the invention is to provide, in a pump, a standing valve all of whose parts are reversible, in case they become worn, so that the life and usefulness of the valve will be practically doubled. Another object resides in the provision of a valve whose parts are interchangeable and which may be readily assembled and taken apart.
With the above and other objects in view this invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustration in the accompanying drawings, wherein: the Figure l, fragmentary vertical sectional view of a pump showing the standing or stationary Valve therein. Referring specifically to the'drawing the numeral l designates the well section which is set in the oil bearing strata of a well bore, the numeral 2 designates the working barrel of the pump. A connecting nipple 3 (which is the body of the standing valve above referred to) is attached to the lower end of the working barrel 2 by coupling 4. A suction pipe f usual form is attached to the lower end of the nipple or standing valve body 3 by means of a coupling 6. The nipple or body 3 is tubular in form and its ends are reduced forming the necks 7 either end of which projects into the barrel 2, and has reversible seat 8 inserted therein, which seat is held clamped in position bymeans of a perforated or longitudinal slotted crown screwed onto the outside thread thereon. The movable valve 10 therein works in connection with valve seat 8. The other end of Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 15, 1922.,
1921. Serial No. 481,133.
the crown projects into the suction pipe 5 and has a suitable coupling internally screw threaded and gas anchor pipe screwed therein. Either end of standing valve may be inserted into the working barrel by reversing same when necessary on account of wear and either end may be used to screw a gas anchor coupling on and thereby double the life of the valve. The travelling valve is not shown, but it works in the barrel 2 above the standing valve. When the pump is in oper ation the valve 10 will co-operate with the coresponding seat 8. Should the upper seat become worn it may be reversed and when the upper end of the standing valve becomes worn the entire standing valve may be reversed, that is changed end for end, and the life of the standing valve thus materially lengthened.
What I claim is .1. A standing valve including a tubular nipple whose ends are reduced forming necks, a reversible valve seat carried by either neck, a valve crown screwed onto either neck and securing the seat in position, and a movable ball valve confined by said crown and co-operating with said seat.
2. A standing valve including a tubular" nipple whose ends are reduced forming necks, a reversible valve seat to be used at either end of the nipple, a valve crown enclosing the seat, and a movable ball valve confined by the crown.
- 3. -A standing valve including a tubular nipple whose ends are reduced forming necks, a reversible valve seat carried by either mesh, a valve crown screwed onto either neck and holding the seat in place, and having a movable valve therein and cooperating with said seat.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the two subscribing witnesses.
. ROY M. STAFFORD.
