ADJUSTABLE ROOF COLLAR.
APPLICATION FILED APR.6. I92].
Patented Aug. 8, 1922 A TTORNEYS W/ TE 88E 8 #JiM/EM W oseoon MORRILL nnnnon, on BATH, MAINE.
ADJUSTABLE noon COLLAR.
Application filed April 6,
1 '0 (1H '1 whom it may concern Be it known that I, Oseoon M. Brannon, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Bath, in the county of Sagadahoc and State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Roof Collar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in adjustable roof collars which permits pivotal adjustment or connection between the roof collar and the sewer pipe so as to in sure a proper relative positioning of the collar and the pipe and enable a tight joint to be had so as to prevent the passage of water inside of the collar.
A further object is to provide an adjustable roof collar of the character stated which can be made in any size to suit the pipe employed, which is capable of adjustment relative to the pipe or the pipe relative to the collar, and which can be conveniently positioned on a roof and operate to make a watertight joint.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation illustrating my improved adjust-able roof collar.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in longitudinal section on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view in transverse section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
1 represents a tapering or truncated conical casing having its lower larger end integral with or fixed to a roof plate 2, the latter having any suitable incline in accordance with the roof on which it is to be placed. Around the upper end of the casing 1 a lead or other calking ring 3 is provided and out side of this calking ring 3 an iron or other hard metal ring 4: is located. The ring 1 is preferably made with depending perforated ears at opposite sides for the reception of rivets 6, which latter project through said perforated ears through the lower portion of the calking ring 3 and through the upper end of the casing 1 operating as hinge pins to permit pivotal adjustment as will more fully hereinafter appear. p

upwardly through the casing 1 and through the calking ring 3 and fits snugly within the callring ring 3, the respective ends of the calking ring 3 being pressed tightly against the pipe 7 and the casing '1, as clearly shown in the drawings. Initially, however, the calking ring is flared at its ends to per- Init the assemblage of parts, and after assemblage, the ring is contracted or tapered at its ends so as to form an effective flaring to exclude water around the pipe.
It will be noted that the ring A} has an internal taper. In other words, this ring is of largest internal diameter at its upper end and reduces in diameter towards its lower end and the calking ring 3 has a corresponding taper, so that when the parts are together and in working position, the calliing ring is held against downward movement and an effective tight joint is had between the parts.
The rivets 6 at opposite sides of the rings enable the flue to have a pivotal adjustment relative to the roof collar as it will be noted that the rings 3 and 4 will move with the pipe in initially positioning the parts so as to take the desired angular position or aligned position relative to the casing l, and after the parts are once adjusted and in place, the calking ring 3 is forced inwardly at its respective ends giving the necessary tight joint.
Various slight'changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the Spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A roof collar, comprising a casing, a ring around the casing, a calking ring interposed between the first-mentioned ring and the casing and projecting above and below said ring, and means pivotally connecting the ring and casing.
52. A roof collar, comprising a casing, a ring around the casing, a calking ring interposed between the first-mentioned ring and the casing and projecting above and be low said ring, and rivets projected through the first-mentioned ring, the calking ring and the casing and located at opposite sides of said ring affording pivotal connection or adjustment of said parts.
roof collar, comprising a casing, a ring around the casing, a calking lung interposed between the first-mentioned ring cated conical casing, a roof plate at the lower end of said casing, a pipe projecting upwardly through said casing, a calking ring around the pipe and around the upper 15 end of the casing, a hard metal rin around the outside of the calking ring and having an internal taper fitting snugly against the calking ring, and rivets at opposite sides of said rings pivotally connecting them to said 20 casing.
