IIRE PUMP. I 7 APPLICATION Fli-ED MAR. 29, 1921.

TIRE PUMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Au. 8, 1922.
Application filed. March 29, 1921. Serial No. 456,508.
To all 10 7mm it may, cancer-n Be it known that I, NiAX H. Moses, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San. Francisco, \ital'e o'l? California, have invented a new and useful Tire Pump, of which the following is a specification in such full. and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to a tire pump and itsiobject is to produce a tire pump which is capable of being secured on a bench or the running board of a car, whereby it may be more conveniently operated than if not so secured to a fixed support.
Another object of the invention is to provide the pump with an operating handle which is capable of being continuously rotated to produce the necessary reciprocating movement. an eccentric being used. to give the desired throw.
Another object of the invention is to produce an air pump which will. be as compact as possible while obtainin the benefits of the continuous rotation for operating it.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which the same reference numeral is applied to the same portion throughout but I am aware that there may be modifications thereof.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the complete pump.
Fig. 2 is an edge elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the pump.
Fig. l is a side elevation of the eccentric.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the eccentric and its support.
The numeral 1 indicates the base which has a post 2 at one end which post is also connected with the base by an 5.. shaped arm and post combined as indicated at 3.
At the opposite end of the base there is a large air cylinder 4 and a smaller air cylindeu5 with a passage-way 6 extending from one cylinder to the other in the base.
The air is discharged from the pump from the top of the cylinder 5 from a nipple 7.
The air cylinders for the piston rods 9 and 10 respectively and a packing gland l1 closes the top of the cylinder 5 to force the air to be delivered therefrom through the nipple 7.
The two piston rods are connected with a crosshead 12 which crosshead is in turn connected to a rod 13 depending between the two cylinders which in turn is connected to a slide 14 movable between the two cylinders at about the place occupied by the pistons.
The slide lei has a pivot pin 15 connected to a link 16 and said link is in turn connected to an arm 17 pivotally mounted on the top of post 2.
A pin 20 serves as the pivot for an eccentric 21 which eccentric has an eccentric link 22 mounted thereon.
A circular plate 23 through which screws 2% and 25 pass retains the eccentric link in place and the pump is operated by a lever 26 provided with the handle 27.
The lever 26 is held in place by the pin 20 and by a screw 28.
In operation the pump is held clamped down on a bench or on the running board 0]": a car and is operated by the rotation of the eccentric 21 through the aid of the handle 27 and lever 26.
It is also to be noted that it may frequently be convenient to have the pump fastened on the side of a wall in which event the operating movement is in no way changed from the movement when fastened in the horizontal position shown in Fig. 1.
What I claim is as follows, but various modifications may be made in the construction shown in the drawings and above particularly described form, within the purview of my invention.
1. A tire pump comprising a base, air cylinders supported thereby, a post at the opposite end of the base from the air cylinders, a lever pivotally mounted on said post and connected with the air pump, a revoluble handle and an eccentric link operated by the handle for delivering air from the pump.
2. In an air pump-of the class described a base, an air pump at one end of said base, a fixed postat the opposite end of the base, a lever pivotally mounted on the post and connected with the air pump, an eccentric revolubly mounted on said post and handle for operating said eccentric, an eccentric link surrounding the eccentric and pivotally connected with the operating lever at a point to give the air pump a greater stroke than the eccentric stroke.
of said base, a post at the opposite end of the base, a lever pivotally mounted on said post and connected to said air pump, a
revoluble eccentric mounted adjacent the post an eccentric link surroundlng the eccentric and connected to said pivoted lever and a handle rigidly connected to the eccentric for the rotation thereof.
In testimony Whereof'I have hereunto set my hand this 19 day of March A. D. 1921.
MAX i-rMosne.
