Description

F. w. HUNT.
Refrigerators;-
NO. 142,469. PatentedSeptember2,l87`8.
i NI'IED STATES -PA'IE OFFICE.
FRANCIS W. HUNT, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN REFRIGERATQRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,469, dated September 2, 1873 application led February 5, 1873.
To all whom it may concerm,
Be it known that I, FRANCIS W. HUNT, of East Orange, county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain Improvements in theconstruction of Refrigerators, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, retL erence being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and forming part of this specification, in which- A 4 Figures l and 2 are vertical transverse sectional views ot a refrigerator combining my improvements. Figs. 3 and I are top-plan views of the rim or frame A, Fig. 3 showing the rim when used for the top, and Fig. 4 when used for the bottom.
This invention relates JIo-certain improvements in refrigerators made of sheet metal, having an outer and inner lining, the space between said linings being air-tight.
My invention consists in a reversible frame or rim, A, either spun or struck up or cast, in such form as that it may be used for the top and bottom both. Said frame A is provided 0n its outer surface with suitable recesses d and b, to which the outer and inner linings are soldered, or otherwise secured, substan tially as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. When said frame A is used for the top, the surface forming the bottom of the refrigerator is cut out, -and the refrigerator reversed, i. e., the bottom edge becomes the top, as shown in Figs. l and 3. The inside of said frame A is also formed with suitable projections c and d, for the lids and ice-chamber to rest upon, the ice-chamber having a suitable ilange for the purpose.
The object of this invention is to provide a uniform and substantial frame, convenient in its application, cheaply' constructed, and at the same time forming a neat finish to the top and bottom of the refrigerator.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A reversible rim or frame, A, for the ends of a refrigerator, spun or struck up from sheet metal or cast, having suitable recesses a and b on the outside for the reception of the outer and inner linings, and also suitable projections or steps c and d on the inside, for the support of the lids and ice-chamber, all substantially as and for the purposes shown and described.
