IMPROVEMENT IN QUILTIN(E`1FRA\VIES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,41 l, dated September 2, 1873 application filed May 14, 1873.
V To all whom it may concern:
` Be it known that I, GILMAN PHiLLIPs, of Biddeford, in the county of York, in the State of Maine, have invented a new and Improved Rug and Quilt Frame; and I do hereby declare that the following is a true and exact description thereof, reference being. had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention is to enable ,large rugs or quilts to be wrought in a more convenient manner, and to occupy less space while in process of being made.
To enable those desiring to useany invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my ,frame as follows: Two rollers, E E, have a bearing in each of their ends, either turned down upon the rollers themselves or inserted in them. The rollers may be of any length, and two end pieces or transverse sections, (F is one,) corresponding in length to the work desired to beperformed upon the frame. The transverse sections have a socket at each end, Gr G, for the insertion of legs H H to support the frame, and two vertical slots (I is one) in each section, commencing at the sockets, and extending nearly to the middle of the section. These slots serve for movable clamps K K, into which the bearings of the rollers are inserted beneath the sections, and firmly secured at any desirable distance by means of a thumb screw, A A, at the top of the same.
What I claim as my invention is- The clamps K K, the slots I I, and rollers E E, all combined and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth. Y
