HOLDER FOR HOT-WATER-BOTILE STOPPERS.
eas es.
Application filed January 31, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fnnnnnro E. BALDWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for Hot-Water-Bottle Stoppers, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the present invention is to facilitate theinsertion of the stopper into the socket of the filling opening of a hot water bottle or bag while at the same time providing simple, comparatively inexpensive and readily attached articulated means for connecting the handle of the bottle or bag with the neck of the stopper. Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description. and the invention will be claimed at the end hereof but will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a sectional view taken on the line 1-1 of Fig. 2 and showing an articulated holder for hot water bottle or bag stoppers embodying features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken onthe line 22 of Figure 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the articulated holder with its parts in one position, and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3 showing another position of the parts of the articulated holder.
In the drawings 1, generally, is the yoke adapted for insert-ion through a bag handle a and consisting of a bar 2 having at its ends angularly disposed arms provided with hinge elements 3. As shown these elements 3 consist of eyes. 4:. generally is a keeper .for loosely embracingthe neck 7) of a stopper,
and it comprises a split ring or ring section. 5 having at the sides of the split angularly disposed extensions 6 provided at their ends with hinge elements 7 shown as pintles. As shown the yoke consists of a single piece of wire and the keeper consists of another single piece of wire and an articulation is provided between the two pieces of wire.
The parts can be readily assembled and applied to the hot water bag or bottle and to the stopper. For this purpose the neck of the stopper can be passed between the Specification of Letters Patent.

extension 6 and into the ring 5, the resilency of the material of which the keeper is made as well as the form of the keeper facilitatingthis operation. The yoke can be passed through the loop of the handle a and the hinge members or elements can then be sprung into operative connection.
In use the stopper 6 can be readily inserted into thesocket 0 even though the fiexi ble walls of the filling funnel be somewhat compressed toward each other, as is usually the case because the hand holding the funnel grips the latter rather than the hot body of the bag or bottle. The stopper Z) can bereadily inserted through the funnel d without touching its contracted walls because of the ability of the parts of the holder to assume the positions shown, and this ability is due to the articulation between the yoke and keeper which operates in effect to shorten the overall length of the holder and thus permit the stopper 6 to clear the wall of the funnel and to be readily guided into the socket. Fig. 3 illustrates the positions of the parts as the stopper 2) is inserted into the socket 0 showing how the overall length of the holder increases. In Fig. 4 there is illustrated the position of the stopper when not in use. From the foregoing description it will be evident that the articulation of the holder in connection with the form and arrangement of the parts permits of the ready insertion of the stopper into the socket even when the bag is full of hot water and held in the ordinary manner with the wall of the funnel contracted on the diameter in which the handle is arranged, and further that the stopper can be readily withdrawn.
I claim:
An articulated holder for hot water bottle or bag stoppers comprising in combination a yoke adapted for insertion through a bag handle and consisting of a bar having at its ends angularly disposed arms provided with hinge elements, and a keeper for loosely embracing the neck of the stopper and comprising a split ring or ring section having at the sides of the split angularlv disposed extensions provided at their ends with hinge elements and adapted to be sprung onto the neck and into engagement with the first mentioned hinge elements, substantially as described.
FREDERIO E. BALDWIN.
