A. P. HANTSCH'.
PLATE ENVELOPE. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 4.1920.
Patented J uly 18, 1922 UNITED sTATnsPATENT car es.
ALFRED P. HANTSCH. OF NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY.
PLATE ENVELOPE.
' Be it known that I, ALFRED P. HAifI'rsotr, a citizen of thellnited States, residing at L New Brunswick, in the county of Middlesex and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plate Envelopes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plate holders and one of the objects is toproduce a cheap and efiicient device of this nature. 7 I o Other objects will appear hereinafter.
All of these objects are'accomplished by means hereinafter described and claimed and which are fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings consisting of one sheet, in which i 'Figure 1 is a plan View of the plate hold or blank. I
Figure 2 is a perspective view illustrating the method of folding the holder blank about the plate.
Figure 3 is aview of a more nearly folded condition of the blank.
Figure 1 is a view of the completely folded blank.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts throughout the several views.
This invention contemplates the providing of a plate envelope in which the plate is wrapped in a piece of light excluding material cut and folded so that by'pulling on a tab, the plate may be exposed when in the camera so as to be ready for taking a picture upon operating the shutter.
The photographic plate'is represented at 11 and I purpose to have this a plate of the style commonly used in taking tin types although it is to be understood that it may be of glass or gelatine; A plate holder blank is shown in Figure 1. and-comprises a strip of light-proof material which is provided with a plate-exposing aperture .12 and. is adapted to be folded at 13 and 14 in lines parallelwith the major axis of theblank and at 15, 16, 17and 18 transversely of the major axis of the blank for a purpose now to be set forth. As shown in Figure 2, the plate 11 isplaced on the plate holding blank Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jilly 18, 1922. 1920. Serial No. 386,434i' operating tab 19 This plate is now protected forday light loading.
In use the tab 19 is exposed from the camera after loading, and when it is desired to take "a picture, the tab 19 is pulled. until the folded portion of the paper or plate holder has been drawn up from in front of the plate. Exposure may then be made in the usual way.
' While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of myinvention, it is obvious that many of the details may be varied without in anyway departing from the spirit of my. invention; and I therefore do not limit myself to the exact details of construction herein set forth nor to anything less than the whole of my in 'vention limited only by the appended claims, v
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. A plate carrying member which comprises anapertured portion a portion toback a plate, a portion adapted to be bent portion, a plate-covering portion interposed between the first and second portions for covering the face of a plate, and a tab portion manipulative for removing said platecoveringportion from its covering position.
3. A plate envelope comprising a single .piece of flexible light-proofmaterial folded so as to entirely enclose a plate and having one portlon extended lnto a manipulative element for effecting an unfolding of a pen tion of the envelope to expose the enclosed plate when desired.
4-. A plate envelope comprising a single piece of flexible light-proof material ilolclerl so as to entirely enclose a plate and ham-- in an anertnrecl )oI'tion to be dis )ose l in front of the plate, a portion normally mask- ALFRED P. HANISCl-L
