Description

A. 1 HAYES. DO0R HANGER. APPLICATION FILED MAY I2, 1921.

ALVA J. HAYES.
DOOR HANGER.
Application filed May 12,
T 0 (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALVA J. HAYES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corydon, in the county of W ayne and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Hangers of which the'tollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to door hangers and the object is to provide a simple, efficient and practical device for supporting the swinging side of heavy doors such as are used in garages, factories. etc. The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view illustrating the application of my invention to the door of a building.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line 38 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 4 designates the corner portion of a building, having a door frame 5 in which is hingedly mounted at 6 a door 7. A horizontal beam 8 has its ends imbedded in the walls 4:, or is otherwise suitably supported, so that it extends at an angle of about forty five degrees away from the door frame, as shown in Fig. 1. A. track 9 is secured to the underside of the beam 8 by any suitable means such as clips 10. Rollers 11 travel in the track 9 and are connected to a threaded shank 12. A bracket 13 is rotatably mounted on the shank 12 and may be adjusted up and down so that any slack in the door or other parts-may be taken up. A pair of rollers 1 are mounted on the lower end of the bracket 13 and carry the door by engaging and rolling on the underside or" a track 15 supported by a member 15 carried by the upper end of the door 7.
It will thus be understood that the door may be swung to any position desired and the swivel connection between the rollers 11 and 1 1 will always adjust itself according to the angle between the door and the beam Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4 1922.
1921. Serial No. 68,970.
8, and still let the weight of the door be carried almost entirely by the beam.
It is further understood that the accompanying drawing and the above description are entirely illustrative of my invention and are not to be taken in a limiting sense. Suitable modifications may be made, provided, however, that such modifications come within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having now therefore fully shown and de scribed my invention what I claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Pat ent is:
1. The combination with a door adapted to swing from one of its sides, a suitably supported straight track extending substantially across the sector described by the door, upper rollers adapted to travel on said track, lower rollers. a track on the door adapted to travel on the lower rollers, and a swivel device connecting the upper and lower rollers.
2. The combination with a door adapted to swing from one of its sides, a suitably supported straight track extending substantially across the sector described by the door, an inverted track secured to the upper end of the door, a swiveling device interposed between the two tracks, said device having upper rollers adapted to ride on the rigid track and lower rollers adapted to carry the inverted track.
8. The combination with a door adapted to swing from one of its sides, a suitably supported straight track extending substantiallly across the sector described by the door, an inverted track secured to the upper end of the door, a swiveling device interposed between the two tracks, rollers j ournaled in the upper end of the swiveling device for engagement with the rigid track, and rollers journaled in the lower end of the swiveling device for engagement with the inverted track.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
ALVA. J. HAYES.
