To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HANS GoLDsor MIDT and KARL MI'JLLER, doctors of chemistry, citizens of the German Empire, residing at Essen, Province of the Rhine, Germany, Salkenbergsweg 18, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Zinc Alloys; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention refers to an alloy of zinc containing manganese in certain limits.
It has been found that an alloy consisting of zinc and manganese with an amount of the latter metal up to four per cent has special properties of great Value. The hardness of zinc is considerably increased by alloying it with manganese as stated above in such a way that according to the Brinell-testit reaches the double value as before, also the resistance to shock bending is 50 per cent higher. Furthermore, in contrast with the zinc alloys heretofore known this new alloy after being slightly warmed in malleable and can be pressed and rolled.
This new alloy is to be used for many technical purposes as a substitute for copper as well as for yellow-brass and bronze. An
alloy containing about 2 per cent of manganese is specially useful.

What we claim is:
1. An alloy'consisting predominantly of zinc and from about 0.5 to 4% manganese.
2. An alloy consisting predominantly of zinc and from about 0.5 to 4% manganese and, from about .25 to 2% aluminium.
3. An alloy consisting predominantly of ZlIlc and about 2% manganese and about 1% aluminium. In testimony whereof, we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
