The pistol is then given a slight angular turn to bring the sight member 30 under the shoulder 16 and then released, the spring 23, in co-operation with the notch forming bevel on the shoulder, holding the pistol in this position.

To all whom t may concern.' y
Be it known that I, JosnrH' SorrUssLnn, citizen of Hungary, and resident of Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton, and
State ofPennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Revolver Holsters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates' to holsters for pistols or revolvers, having more particular reference to a means for holding the pistol in the holster against sudden withdrawal b anyone who may come suddenly behind the wearer of the holster or otherwise may catch the latter unawares and endeavor to withdraw the pistol.
The invention has for an object to provide a simple and inexpensive means for the above purpose which will allow of the pistol being readily withdrawn from the holster for use by the person carrying the same.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a side view of a holster having the invention applied thereto, certain parts being broken into vertical section to show the interior construction.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, this view being at right angles to Fig. 1.
In the drawings the casing of the holster is indicated at l0A and may be in the main of usual shape, and constructed as usual of leather, with the diminished lower end 10 adapted to receive the barrel of the pistol, the bottom of the holster being closed by a transverse wall member 10a.
lWithin this lower end 10 of the holster is mounted a cup 12 whose bottom 12 rests on the bottom 10a of the holster, the end of the pistol barrel being adapted to project into the open upper end of this cup. Formed in one side of this cup is a vertical slot 14 which extends from near the bottom of the cup to the rim thereof. The top portion of this slot 141 is narrowed as shown by a projecting element 15 on one wall thereof, this projecting element presenting a shoulder 16 at its inner end which is beveled as shown to provide a notch to receive the forward sight member of the pistol, will be presently pointed out.
lllithin the cup 12 is slidably held a disk 13 which is guided by means of a hollow integral hub 19 thereon, engaging over a stud 2O screwed into the bottom of the cup.
Fixed in the annular wall of the cup 12, and extending radially inward, are a pair of diametrically opposed pins 22 which project over the marginal portion of the disk, these pins acting as stops to limit the outward movement of the disk under the action of an expansion spring 23 coiled in the bottom of the cup around the stud 20 and bearing outwardly against the disk. Formed in the upper face of the disk 18 are a series of radial grooves 24 which extend inwardly from the edge of the disk, and are arranged in diametrically opposed pairs. As shown in the drawings these grooves are of different depths and any selected pair thereof is adapted to be brought into registry with t-he pins 22 so as to vary the position of the disk 18 in the cup 12. The disk 18 may also have a pair of slots 26 eXtending completely therethrough to permit of passage of the pins 22 when it is desired to remove the disk.
The manner of use of the device in holding the pistol against sudden, clandestine withdrawal is as follows: lVhen the pistol is inserted in the holster the forward sight member 30 on the end of the barrel 31 enters the. slot 14. The end of the pistol barrel comes in contact with the hub 19 of disk 18 before the sight member 30 has cleared the shoulder 16. The end of the barrel is pressed against the disk, forcing the latter inward against spring 23 until the sight .member 30 clears the shoulder 16. The pistol is then given a slight angular turn to bring the sight member 30 under the shoulder 16 and then released, the spring 23, in co-operation with the notch forming bevel on the shoulder, holding the pistol in this position.
As will be apparent any attempt to suddenly snatch the pistol from the holster will be prevented by engagement of the sight member 30 with the shoulder 16, while at the same time the person carrying the pistol can readily release it by first pressing downward thereon and then giving it a slight turn.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
l. In a pistol holster, a locking member adapted to engage the forward sight member of the pistol, and resilient means holding said looking member in engagement with said sight member.
2. In a pistol holster, a cup having a slot in its side wall presenting an inwardly facing shoulder, a disk slidable in said cup, a spring pressing said disk outwardly, and means limiting the outward movement of the disk.
3. In a pistol holster, a cup having a slot in its side wall presenting an inwardly facing shoulder, a disk slidable in said cup, a spring pressing said disk outwardly, and mea-ns limiting the outward movement of the disk, in different adjusted positions.
l. In a pistol holster, a cup having a slot in its side wall presenting an inwardly facing shoulder, a disk slidable in said cup, a spring pressing said disk outwardly, and means limiting the outward movement of t-he disk, in different adjusted positions, said means comprising pins fixed in the wall of the eup, and a series of grooves of different depths in the face of the disk.
5. In a pistol holster, a cup having a slot in its side wall, presenting an inwardly facing shoulder forming a notch, a disk slidable in said cup, a hollow hub on said disk, a stud fixed in the bottom of the cup and slidably engaging insaid hub, a spring bearing between the bottom of said cup and said disk, a pair of diametrieally opposed pins fixed in the cylindrical wall of said Cup and projecting inwardly, and aseries of grooves of different depths formed in the upper face of said disk, said grooves being arranged in pairs the respective members of which are diametriCa-lly opposed to one another.
