Application filed ltarch 19, 1921a Serial 4533860} 1 4111 11371077? it may concern:
ticle of manufacture comprising a vertically disposed cylinder having sector compartments therein closed by acoverhaving an;'
- opening arranged to fully open only one-of said compartments at one time.
The present; state of the art discloses rec tangula-r trucks employed inlanndries? and provided with a plurality of compartments to receive individuallaundry collections; from a washer machine; or wheel also haw ing compartments within which individuah laundry collections; are washed;
In removing the individual collectiol'i from one of the washer compartments to; the truck; compartment'it isa-wkwa-rd'and inconvenient, and much energy and time is#' wasted in manipulatingthe rectangular truck tobring the same to a proper position to transfer laundryto an empty compartment.
We intend to overcome the disadvantages of the rectangular truck; by roviding a- Ver tically disposed cylindrical truck, which;
owing to its circular shape, may be easily and readily rolled along the edge of the: washing machine; thereby successively p'r'esenting successive compartments to the side of the washing machine, whereby the proc-t 1 ess of transferring laundry from a compart-' mentof said washing machine; toa compartment of the truck may be facilitated.
A; further object of: the present invention is toprovide a suitable cover which may be easily rotated, instead of raised on hinges;
and having a single opening therein arranged to register with and thereby uncover only one of the truck compartments at one time, inorder to prevent confusion and mix-r ing OfindividuaI laundry collections;
A s tillhful-tther object of: the, invention is to provide adrain Whereby surplus water may be, drainedfronr the laundry withinthe compartments thereby facilitating the drying process of said laundry within said compartments. e
A still fiurt-henflbjgect. is: to provide a rotatable cover of the character described that will ri ideuponi a circular head to reduce frictional engagement of said cover during rotation; and to prevent frictional contact of said. cover with the upper ends? of vertically disposed part;i tionswhich divide the; truck intoi sector compartments. e
We accomplish these and other objects by 'means; Of the improved; article of menufactn-re disclosed in the drawings forming. a part of the present specification whereinlike characters of; reference are used to designa te similar parts throughout the said specification and drawings: and inwhich-- Fig l; is a; perspective; view 0% our improved laundry truck;
*Fig; 2 is a; plan? view thereof with the 0m remnveklli Figs 3; is-a: broken vertical; sectional view oi the truckdisclosing the manner in which thQ QQVIEzis: mounted and the drain at the 6 2mm QfiiSQ- dt tflldfi alld 'Eig} 4+ s abattoir-r plan view of the trucln Referring? liQut ll? drawings the' numeral 1 is used: to' designate a vertically disposed cylinderving a: frustoeconica'l bottom 2 providedwi a: centrally disposed aperture covered withaar suitable screen 3.
fEhe; truck is lnovably supported by means of aaangnanname 4 having a suitable caster 5 pivotal-lymounted: at each' cornerthereof, said frame 45 beingriveted or other-" wise suitably secured to the bottom 2 of said truck or cylinderla- The truck-'01 cylinder. 1 is provided with a plurality of sector compartments 6' communicatingwith the screened aperture 3 in the bottom 2-,;by means of: radially disposed vertical partitidnsi '3' arranged. preferably at right an les to each other as disclosed in Fig. 2 0 the drawings:
A cover 8" is rotatably mounted upon a suitable stud or pivot 9 arranged at the junction of the; partitions 7 and is provided with an aperture or sector opening 10 arranged to fully uncover only one of the sector compartments 6 at one-time. is The perriphery of the cover 8 rests and rides upon a bead 11 which is suitably secured to the inner surface of the cylinder 1 and projecting slightly above the upper ends of thepartitions 7, thereby preventing frictional engagement of said cover 8 with said parti: tions during rotation of the same. i 1
The cover 8 is provided with a suitable knob or handle '12 by means of which said cover may be easily and readily rotated The cylinder 1 is reinforced by means of suitable circumferential bands arranged at regular intervals on the outer surface of said cylinder, thus tending to retain the shape of the truck and to prevent-violent contact of the. outer walls of said cylinder 1 with obstructions or projections which might be encountered during movement of said truck.
In operation the trunk is moved adj acen the washing machine, not shown, and the laundry from one compartment" of said machine is transferred to one of the compartments 6 of the truck or cylinder 1. After the entire contents of one washer compart' ment has been thus transferred, the truck or cylinder 1 is rolled along the edgeof the washer to present the next or successive empty compartment "6 of said I truck to the next compartment of the washer to be emptied, the cover 8 having been meanwhile rotated, by means of'jthe' handle 12, to uncover the next compartment 6 to receive the next collection of laundry.
During'this operation, laundry within the compartments will be drained through'the screened aperture 3 in the bottom 2 of the cylinder 1, and as said screened aperture communicates with all of said compartments 6 it is obvious that the laundry within all of the compartments 6 will be effectively drained during transportation of the truck to the next successive stage in the process.
It is obvious from the foregoing that we have provided a new article of manufacture comprising a vertically disposed cylindrical truck having a plurality of compartments arranged to receive individual laundry collections and a rotatable cover arranged to open only one of said compartments at one time. I
This latter feature of the cover is important and essential in work of this type as it is evident that were all of the compartments uncovered an operator might easily become confused and place some of'the articles of the laundry within the wrong compartment.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. A new article of manufacture compristions; and a cover rotatably'n'iounted upon the partitions and havin the periphery thereof resting upon said bead, said cover being provided with an aperture arranged to fully uncover only one of said compartments at one time.
2. A new article of manufacture comprising a cylindrical laundry truck; vertically disposed partitions mounted within the truck to provide a plurality of compartments therein; a bead mounted within the truck and having its upper edge projecting slightly above the upper edges of the partitions; a cover rotatably mounted upon the partitions and having the periphery thereof resting upon said head, said cover being pro- -vided with'an aperture arranged to fully uncover only one of said compartments at I one time; and circumferential bands mounted at regular intervals upon the outer surface of the truck to reinforce the same.
3. A new article of manufacture comprising a vertically disposed cylinder having an apertured frusto-conical bottom to facilitate draining of laundry in said cylinder; radially disposed vertical partitions within the cylinder arranged to provide sector compartments communicating with the aperture in said bottom to drain said sector compartments; and a cover rotatably mounted over the compartments and having an opening therein arranged to register with only one of said compartments at one time; and a suitable screen mounted over said aperture.
4. A new article of manufacture comprising a vertically disposed cylinder having radially disposed vertical partitions therein; a triangular supporting frame secured upon the bottom of the cylinder; and a caster mounted at each corner of the triangular frame to form a three point rolling support whereby said cylinder may be moved as and for the purposes described.
5. A new article of'manufacture comprising a vertically disposed cylinder having radially disposed partitions forming compartments therein; supporting members secured in triangular form upon the bottom of the cylinder; casters mounted upon the bottom of the cylinder at the points of intersection of said supporting members to form a three point rolling support whereby the cylinder may be readily moved; and a rotatable cover having an opening therein arranged to register with any of the compartments of the cylinder.
6. A new article of manufacture comprising a vertically disposed cylinder having an apertured frusto-conical bottom; a screen covering the aperture in said bottom; a plurality of vertical partitions mounted within the cylinder to form compartments therein; supporting members secured in triangular form upon the bottom of the cylinder; casters mounted at the intersection of said supporting members to form a three point rollscribed.
In Witness whereof we hereunto set our signatures.
