FENCEPGST.
V.application filed .Tune 3, 1921.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that L ANDREW Penne er, a citizen ot Hungary, residing at Martins Ferry. in the county ot Belmont and State of Ohio, have invented certain nenT and useful lmprovements in Fenceposts, o1' which the 'following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to the construction of fences, having more particularly reference to the construction of the posts of wire fences.
'lhe invention has for an object to provide a novel and simple type of post to which the wire can be readily attached, both when the post is at the end of the fence and when it is intermediate the ends.
For further comprehension ot the inven tion, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drav'- ings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set -forth.
`Fig. 1 ot the dra-wings is a perspective view of a portion of a. tence constructed cording to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the plane indicated by the line 2-2 ot Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form oi plate member for holding the wires to intermediate posts.
Referring now to the drawings, the main body of' the post is indicated at 10 and is lornied with a pointed lower ond li adapted to be driven, or otherwise inserted, into the ground.
The outer face of the post is formed wit a recess 12 which extends completely thereaoross, terminating at upper and lower ends short distance from the top of the post and the pointed extremity 11.
This recess 12 is iilled by a removable section 13 which is bolted in place by the bolts 14, cooperating tongue and groove ele ments 15 being formed on the bottom or" the section 13 and the adjacent wall ot the recess 12.
This construction permits of the securingA ot tbe horizontal tence wires to the posts in such manner as may be desired. For instance, l have sho-wn one more wire 15 Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 715843.
wound several times around the section 13 as indicated at 16, the end 01"' the wire being caught between the adjacent faces ot' the section and the main body ot the post.
A second wire 1'? is wound first around the section 13 as at 18, and then around the niain element 10 as at 19, while a third wire 2l) is wound around the complete post with its end inturned between the parts 10 and 13. The post members 10 and llmay be cut out at the corners as at 22 to accommodate the wires.
Upon the face of the section l provide a series ot elements with which wires 25 may be engaged to prevent displacement when the posts are employed intermediate the ends of the fence. These elements comprise plates 26 secured by screws 27 to the section 13 and having their edges notched to iorm a series of ears 28 which may be bent verti-- cally to project on opposite sides oli' the wire.
ln Fig. 3 l have indicated an arrangement in which the notches in the plate 3() are` out in a manner to have the bases of the ears 81 diagonal to the wire 32 so that when the wire has been passed between a pair of these ears the latter can be bent down to overlap the wire as shown.
Having thus described my invention what l claim as new and desirey to protect by Letters Patent of the nited States is as follows:
1. ln a tence, a post. a flat plate secured to the `tace of said post,v and a wire extendinnf across said plate in contacttherewith. said plate having its side edges notched to form a plurality of ears arranged in pairs on opposite sides thereot and bent outwardly from the body of the plate to-receive the wire between the respective ears of each pair and prevent vertical displacement thereof.
Q. A fence post having on the face there of a series of plates notched on the edges to torni 12o-operatinpl pairs oli' ears adapted to bc bent outwardly to receive a wire there between, said ears having; diagonally arv ranged bases, for the purpose specified.
ln testimony whereot` l have atliied my signature.
ANDREW PELESKEY.
