COLLAPSIJBLE CHAIR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat T, ADAM Go'rrnn, a citizen of Poland, residing at Homing, county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful limprovements in Collapsible Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in collapsible chairs, and itis the principal obiect of the invention to provide a chair of simple and inexpensive construction which can be readily folded to form a package conveniently to handle and to be stored without requiring much space.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a collapsible chair provided with means for cushioning the impact of the seat parts for instance when the chair is to be set up so as to avoid all unnecessary noise.
These and other like objects will become more fully apparent, as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
' In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of a seat support, and
Figure 3 is a section on line '3'3 of Fig-- 10 and 11. with the larger rear uprights 12,
13 intermediate the ends thereof.
The front and rear uprights are furthermore connected by means of bars 17, 18 in approximately the middle of the large uprights and lower bars 19, 20.
Chains 2O and21 are secured as shown in l igure 1 with their ends to eyes or sockets 22 at the lower ends of the uprights 10. 11,
12 and 13 respectively.
To these sockets 22 are pivotally securedthe lower ends of rods or legs 23, 24-, 25, 26, which are connected intermediate their ends by means of rods 27, 28.
The rods 23 and 24 are connected at theirupper ends by means of rods 29 having curved ends 30, 31, while the rods 25 and 26 are connected at their upper ends by means of similar rods 32 having curved ends 33.
Specification ofLetters Patent. Patented Jun e 2Q, 1322 Application filed same 1, 1921. Serial No. 520,560.
The straight central parts of rods 29 and 32 are revolvably guided through a wooden block 34 having a substantially Ushaped cross section and formed at its upper face with a socket 35 for the reception or rubber cushions 36 for cushioning the lower seat faces While the chair is set up. At the upper ends the rods 23, 24, 25 and 26 carry support ing cleats 37.
he seat of the chair is made in two parts 38, 39 rotatably secured at their side edges by means of bands 40 to the bars 17 and 18 respectively, and connected by hinges 15 at their meeting edges. V
The back rest of the chair is formed by means of the parts or wings 11, 42, connected at their inner meeting edges by means of hinges 43, the outer edges of which are secured by means of bands 44 to the uprights '12 and 13 to rotate around the same.
It will be clear that the rods 12,13 and 17,
18 are provided with suitable depressions at the places where the bandstO and 44 are guided around the same.
In operation, the parts of the seat are elevated in the middle to hold their lower sides to face each other and the frames 23, 24, 25 and 26 are folded upon each other while the uprights 10, 11, 12, 13 follow this movement after the parts of the back are folded so that their inner faces touch beyond the collapsed frame.
It will be clear that changes may be made in the general arrangement and in the construction of the minor details without deviating from the scope and spirit of my invention.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is- In a folding chair of the class described, a
curved ends, a block of substantial U-shaped cross section through which the straight part of said rods are guided, a socket formed in the upper face of said block and rubber cushions in said socket for cushioning the lower face of the seat parts in their extended position.
Tn testimony whereof I have afiizred my signature. 7 ADAM GUTTER.
