Be it known that I, AMER-cs1; E. KLINE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brookville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful. Improvements in Signs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprehends the provision of a sign constructed of metal and designed to withstand certain pressure and detrimental effects of bad weather conditions, with a view of materially prolonging the life of the sign, while the construction is such as to provide a neat and attractive appearance.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the sign constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a rear elevation.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a view in elevation of one of the plates which associates the reinforcing member with the sign.

Figure 5 is a detail view of the bracket.

Figure 6 is an edge elevation of the reinforcing member connecting the sides of the sign.

Figure 8 is a view of one side of the frame.

Arranged at the rear of the sign and connecting the sides 12 is a metallic sheet 13 which constitutes a brace for the sign, affording the latter the desired rigidity to withstand high wind pressure or the like. This sheet of material 13 is formed with attaching lugs 14 which project from the sides thereof. and are adapted to be slipped under the strips 13' which are attached to the bracket including an intermediate arcuateshaped portion 17, and attaching flanges 18. This bracket is arranged at one side of the sheet 13 to which it is secured by suitable fastening elements passed through openings in the attaching flange 15. The intermediate portion of the bracket embraces the post or standard 10 as illustrated in Figure 3, as does also the U-shaped bolt 18 which passes through an arcuate-shaped slot 20 provided in the intermediate portion of the bracket. As clearly illustrated in Figure 3, the bolt 18' passes through the plate 21 secured to the sheet 13 as illustrated in both Figures 2 and 3. The sheet 13 is formed with a flange 22' which over.- lies the upper end of the standard 10 and serves as a reinforcement and roof for protecting the standard. Mounted upon the top of the sign is an arm 20, shaped similar to an arrow and adapted to bear the name of the next town. Also projecting from the sign is a protecting member or flange 21 g which acts as a roof for protecting the advertising matter on the sign proper, and at the same time serves to strengthen and reinforce the sign. The side members 12 of the sign are provided with flanges 22 along the edges thereof to also add to the strength and rigidity of the sign in its entirety. These flanges also serve to secure the two sign panels together.

While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

What I claim is:
