Ee it llznown that l, Finnair dauern residing at 54A indiana Jive., in the city of 1ndianapolis county ot Marion, ftate of Indiana, and a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Shock bsorbers, of which the following is a specification.
rllhe object of my invention is to provide a uorel construction of shock absorber, which shall be extremely simple in construction, thoroughly efficient in use, and entirely practical from a manufacturing and engineering standpoint,
TWith this object in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of (3o-operating parts, as will be hereinafter fully described in the specification, summarized in the claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.l
The drawing, forming part of my specification, discloses the preferred embodiment of my invention, and like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views. Briey oescribed:

Figure 3 is a fragmentary view, partly in section, partly in side elevation, of the device.
Referring. now, in detail to the drawing:
1 designates a casing, preferably circular in cross section, as shown, and provided, at diametrically opposite points in its peripheral wall, with two openings 2, 2; adjacent said openings, with two pairs of ears 3, 3, the two ears in each pair being parallel. and drilled to provide alined openings e; and, at diametrically opposite points, with two outward-projecting, open-ended, tubular extensions 5, 5 communicating, through the inner open ends thereof, with the interior of the casing 1. Aflvantageously, the casing 1 and the extensions 5, 5 are integral` and, for this purpose, may be forn'ied as a casting. A removable face-plate 11, formed a. clisl ,inay be suitably secured, as by screws, to the casing 1, to close the chamber thereof.

That is to say, the barrels 7, 7 and the tongue 9 are preferably formed a cylindrical casting, the casting being axially bored from the ends thereof to a point near the longitudinal center thereof, the solid central portion being eut away, on both sides, to provide an integral tongue or bridge 9, having parallel, flat faces.V This central cut-away portion, forming the bridge 9, is provided with curvilinear end walls io, io.
Projecting within the chamber of each cylindrical member or barrel 7 is a coiled lcompression spring 18, one end thereof bearing against the closed end of said barrel and the other end against the cap 6.
Fulcrumed between the two ears of each pair of ears 3, 3, is a bell-crank lever 12, provided, for this purpose, at the point of union of the longer and shorter arms thereof, with an opening adapted to register with the openings 4 in the ears 3, 3, a fulcrum-pin passing through said registering` open ings.
rllhe shorter arms 14 of said levers project, in the assembled position of the parts. into the casing, through the openings 2, 2 in the zasing 1, and are provided, at their' free ends, with overlapping yokes 15, in which the bridge or tongue 9 is received, one of said yokes lying against the flat faces of said tongue 9, and said yolres having curvilinear ends, all as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
In use, the longer arms of the bell-crank levers 12, 12 are suitably secured, at their otherwise free ends, to the vehicle body and the vehicle spring, as shown at 16 and 17. In operation, vibration moves the longer arms of the two bell-crank levers 12, 12 toard each other, which will rock the shorter arms 14, 141- of said levers toward the left in Figs. 1 and 3, and the curvilinear edges of the yokes 15, 15. bearing against the curvilinear walls 10, 10 at the left in Figs. 1 and 2, will force the twin barrels 7, 7 to the left in said figures, thereby compressing the lefthand spring 18. Upon rebound, the twin barrels 7, 7 move in the reverse direction. against the influence of the right-hand spring 18.
