7 '0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Moms, a citizen of the United States, residing at Missoula, in the county of Missoula and State of Montana, have invented a new and'useful Burner, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a burner adapted to be employed for heating objects of any sort and adapted peculiarly although not exclusively, to be used in heating the tiresof the wheels of locomotive engines, before such tires are shrunk onto the wheel rims. Y
The invention aims to provide a simple structure of the type above mentioned which at the will of the operator may be employed either as a double ended burner or as a single ended burner.
Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for directing the fuel and air toward the point of application.
It is within the scope of the invention to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed it being understood that changes in the preciseembodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 shows the invention in side elevation; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an end elevation; Fig. 5 is a perspective view depicting a slightly modified form of the invention, most of the parts employed in that form of the invention which-is shown in Fig. 1 being used in Fig; 5; Fig. 6 is a fragmental longitudinal section showing a modified form of the invention.
The burner herein disclosed comprises a casing including a body 1 preferably con sisting of a block of metal provided at its ends with concaved recesses 2. The body 1 is bored longitudinally to form a fuel chamber 3, an air chamber 4, and a web 5 lying between the chambers. In the side face of the body 1 intermediate its ends is formed a Specification of Letters Patent.

transverse recess 6 at the base of which is disposed an opening 7 communicating with the fuel chamber 3. An opening 8 at the base of the recess 6 communicates with the air chamber 4. A pipe 9 is threaded into the opening 7 and a pipe 10 is threaded into the opening 8. Threaded into the ends of the fuel chamber 3 are plugs 11, plugs 12 being threaded into the ends of the chamber 4. In each of the plugs 11 is formed a fuel outlet 14 the axis of which preferably is parallel to the axis of the body 1. In each of the plugs 12 is formed a pair of air outlets 15. The air outlets l5 converge from the air chamber 4 toward the outer end of the body. J
As will be understood readily, fuel, preferably crude oil, is delivered by way of the pipe 9 into the chamber 3 and passes outwardly into the concaved recesses 2 through outlets 14'. Air under pressure is delivered into the pipe 10 and passes into the air chamber 4, the air being delivered into the concaved recesses 2 through the ports 15. Owing to the fact that the ports 15 converge as they extend outwardly, the stream of air passing into each of the recesses 2 ultimately combine to form a single stream.
l/Vhen a single ended burner is employed, the parts are disposed as shown in Fig. 5. The openings 7 and 8 inclosed by plugs 16 and the pipes 9 and 10 are inserted into the extreme ends of the chambers 3 and 4 at on end of the body 1.
In'Fig. 6, the casing is shown at 17 and is terminally recessed as denoted by the reference character 18. The fuel chamber is shown at 19, the air chamber at 20 and the intervening web at 24. The fuel ports are shown at 21 and the air ports appear at 22, the ports 20 and 21 being formed in solid heads 23 constituting a part of the body 17,
