DOCK FOR BINDERS.
Application filed August 13, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLEs F. MOBEE, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Athens, in the county of Athens and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Locks for Binders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a locking device for use in forming volumes of any thickness and which will automatically lock itself in position.
My invention relates to the class of paper binders shown in my former Patent No. 1374594, but unlike the device of that invention does not depend upon a certain size of papers to be bound, but is complete initself for use with any sized per forations in the papers sufficient to receive the binding tube and of lesser diameter than the heads of the binding members.
My invention consists of the construction herein illustrated, described and claimed.
In the drawings Figure I is a view, partially in section, of a column bound with my invention;
Figure II is a detail View of the binding members; and Figure III is a cross section of the same, taken on the line 33 in Figure II.
The leaves 10 forming the volume are punched with holes ofany convenient size, the only requirement being that the holes Specification of Letters Patent.
paper binders adapted for Patented June 8, 1922. Serial No. 492,082.
shall be large enough to'receive the spring metal tube 11, and smaller than the diameter, or width, of the heads 12 on the mating members 13. The members 13 are formed of such a size as to be received by the tube 11, and said members are provided with ratchet teeth on their mating sides, the whole construction of the members and tube being such that when the members are forced into position, as shown in Figure I, they will be locked firmly in position, thus forming the volume.
The operation of my device is obvious, it being instantly apparent that the spring metal tube is forced outwardly as the members 13 are forced together, the ratchet teeth mating and being locked together by the tension of the spring metal tube.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is: r
A locking device for paper binders comprising a spring metal tube adapted to be inserted in the perforations of the leaves to be bound, a binder post formed in two longitudinally, and mating, divided sections, and inter-engaging teeth formed in the abutting surfaces thereof, each of said sections having a head formed to overhang its respective side of the volume under construction.
