To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, THEODORE A. HORTON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of'New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Casting Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to casting apparatus and its object is to provide means of the class specified, simple in construction and reliable and convenient in operation.
To these ends my improvements comprise features illustrated in their preferred that of Fig. 1 but with some of embodiment in the drawing accompanying this specification, wherein Figure 1 is a side cross-sectional elevation on line 1-1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a front cross-sectional elevation on irregular line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section similar to the members opened out. Fig. 4 is a section similar to that of Fig. 2, also with some of the members opened out. The figures of the drawin are all to one scale.
ly improved casting apparatus is for convenience,-illustrated as adapted for easting grooved sheaves, and includes base 3 having convenient ears, as 4, 5, 6, upstanding therefrom and in which are carried pivots, cs7, 8. On a portion of these pivots are mounted opposite face members 9 and 10 in the opposing faces of which are formed the contours 11 and 2 of the sheave which the apparatus is desi ed to produce.
Said members'9 and 10-have their pivot axes in parallelism and so positioned relatively to their bulk, respectively, when said tit? - that when they are in members are in'their closed positions, Figs.
1 and 2, that the center of. gravity of each vertical plane member will fall between a through its ivotal axis, as plane 23 of axis 24, and its ace, as 12 of member 10. This arrangement causes said members to lie snugly in their operative positions against score ring sections 13, 14, thus greatly facilitating the operation of the apparatus particularly when heated by use.
Said score ring sections 13, 14: are arranged with their pivotal axes at right anglee to those of members 9 and 10 and are similarly pivoted relativelyto their bulk, so their closed positions of Figs. 1 and 2, the center of gravity of each will fallcbetween vertical plane -25 of Specification of Letters Patent.

I claim:
1. In casting apparatus the combination of two pairs of opposite pivoted members, each pair disposed at right angles to the other pair, one pair of said members closing into coactive engagement and the other pair'closing into coactive engagement with the first mentioned pair, respectively, each of said members of each pair having its center of gravity between a vertical plane through its pivotal axis and that fat-ethereof which coacts with members.
2. In casting apparatus the combination of two pairs of opposite coacting members, each member being cut away at the point of conjunction of the four members for forming a mold mouth and a removable block for insertion in said mold mouth for providing opposite narrow channelways for the inflo'wing metal. 3. In casting apparatus the combination of a plurality of coacting members, each of said members being cut away at its upper point of coaction for forming a mold mouth, and a removable rectangular block for insertion in said mold mouth, having one pair of opposite sides in contact with said mold mouth and the other two sides forming walls, respectively, for coaction with the mold mouth to form two passages into said apparatus and to choke those passages.
4c. In casting apparatus the combination of a pair of opposite pivotally mounted mold members folding together into coacting relation, and a second pair of opposite pivotally mounted mold members folding provided with a passage for rod 16 to supanother one of the Said tiebar into coacting relation with each other and with the first mentioned pair of members, said second pair of members being pivoted at right angles to the pivoting of the first mentioned pair of members.
5. In casting apparatus the combination of a pair of oppositely disposed mold members each pivotally mounted independent of the other 011 axially parallel pivots for folding into coacting relation, and a second pair of mold members each pivotally mounted independent o-f the other on axially parallel pivots for folding into coacting relation with said first pair of members and with each other, the axes of the pivots of the first pair of members being disposed at right angles to the axes of the pivots of the second pair of members.
6. In casting apparatus the combination of two pairs'of opposite coacting members one member of one pair being cut away at the point of conjunction of the four members for forming a mold mouth, and a removable block for insertion in said mold mouth for providing a plurality of narrow channelways for the inflow of metal.
7. In casting apparatus the combination of a plurality of coacting members, each of said members being cut away at its upper point of coaction for forming a mold mouth, and a removable block for insertionin said mold mouth having opposite portions in contact with said mold mouth and other opposite portions forming walls, respectively, for coaction with the mold mouth to THEODORE A.
