Be it known that I, Banner Newman, a citizen of the Unitd' States, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York of the screws inserted in the screw holes therein, said expansion being caused by the heat generated by the illuminating means.

An added disadvantage is that if the screws become loosened or dislodged, the supporting means of the globe is gone with the incident danger to the person who happens to be under the same, as well as exnse of breakage. Further, the globe is not intentionally removable without considerable trouble in unscrewing at least three screws'to take it down.

By my invention I provide a holder for globes wherein the globe is readily removable and. is held in position when 111 use witlfout the use of screws, thereby obviating the necessity of drilling holes in the globes.

By. my invention I secure a screwless holder that, when in practical use, is so looked that it is impossible for the globe to i iall unless the holder in intentionally unldcked. Further, as no screws, solder, or other connecting means are employed, the holder can be easily unlocked, when desired, for cleaning or other purposes, by merely pressing a. button which causes the parts to be in position for disassembling.

Thereis a bellhaped body 1, having at the top thereof ven hOls 2 to permit the es ape of heat, said body having fastened at the top a heat diffusing shield 4, by means of'screw ring 3, the ring 3 being adapted to be attached to a chain or other supporting means. There is a vertical hole shown at 3'- through ring 3, shield 4 and body 1, to permit the entry of electric wire inside the body to be connected to the commercial socket and illuminating means- The body 1 has a hole therein at 5 through which is inserted a button 6, held in projected position by a leaf spring 7 or similar means. While I employ one such spring-i pressed button, more-than one can be used, and equivalent locking means may be used without departing from the spirit of my invention.

The screw-threaded flanges 17',are employed in the usual manner for supporting electric light socket or sockets. The apron 8 has leaves 9 hinged or pivoted thereto at 10, said leaves being flared at the loose ends at 12, to form lips 13 for supporting the globe 14. While two such leaves are shown more than two can be used.

The body 1 is bell-shaped with the flare at the bottom, Said flare serves the purpose of supporting the apron 8 as at 16 and at the same time keeps the leaves 9 in the extended position as at 17 thereby preventing the leaves from coming toward each other and releasing the globe.

In practice the parts are assembled as shown in the drawing. To take out the globe all that is necessary is to press the button 6, push up the apron 8 and the leaves 9 are released from the globe 14 and the globe is easily removed. The drawing shows in dotted lines the apron in the raised position. To insert the globe 14, the same steps are followed. Button 6 is pressed, apron 8 is pushedpup, the loosely hanging leaves 9 are placed under the rim of the globe 14 until the lips 13 of said leaves are in contact with the under surface of the rim of the globe at 15.

The apron 8 is pushed down until the button 6 is again projected by spring pressure beyond the surface of the apron.

As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departin from the'scope thereof, it is intended that ii matter contained inthe above description or i shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

A holder for globes comprising, in combination, a bell-shaped body and a removableapron having globe holding means, slidably mounted on said body, the flare on said body supporting the apron and keeping the leaves in contact with the globe, and means to hold said body and apron in locked position,- for the purposes described.
