Unrrnn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. THOMAS, or OASSVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN COLTER-CLASPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,615, dated August 12, 1873 application filed March 1'7, 1873. p
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAS. H. THOMAS, of Oassville, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement on a Oolter-Glasp for Hanging (Jolters to Plow-Beams; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, in whicht Figure l is a view of the clasp a, with partial thread-bolt b passing through the clasp at c and d. The holes in the clasp a at c and d are large enough to allow the bolt 1) to pass through freely. Fig. 2 is a side view of a plow with the improved clasp a on it.
e is the plow. f is the beam. a is the improved clasp. g is the colter. The bolt b, Fig. 1, passes not only through the clasp a at c and d, but through the beam f and colter 9, also as shown at d, Fig. 2. The clasp a lies off from the beam f far enough to allow the colter g to swing loosely up and down inside the clasp a, between it and the beam f, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1.
The object of this is to form a pivot on the bolt 1) at d, Fig. 2, to allow the colter g to rise up, as shown by dotted lines h, for the purpose of removing any obstruction that may accumulate between it and the plow e, or farther up to t, where it will be held fast by asmall bolt or button, I, when not in use. jj are two graduating-blocks, placed between the clasp a and beam f for the purpose of setting the colter more or. less straight, or on an angle. The screw-thread on the bolt b is for the purpose of screwing into the beam f to prevent the bolt from workin g out. purpose of raising or lowering the same.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In connection with a plow-beam, the combination of the band a, partial thread-bolt 12, blocks j j, and perforated colter. g, all constructed and operating as and for the purposes set forth.
GHAS. H. THOMAS.
