To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES H. FRANK, of Ilion, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Ironing-Tables, of which the following is a specification:

My invention relates to that class of ironingtables which have folding legs or supports 5 and consists in a novel manner of constructing them, as hereinafter described.

Figure l is a side elevation of my table in position for use; Fig. 2, a side view of the same folded for storage or transportation, and Fig. 3, a side View of the bar or brace for locking the legs.

In constructing my table I provide two pairs of legs or bars, K and L, and pivot them across each other at or near the middle, so that they may be opened apart to form an X-shaped horse or trestle, as in Fig. l, or folded together into aiiat, compact shape, as shown in Fig. 2. Each pair of legs is provided at the lower end with a cross-bar, a, and to one of said bars there is pivoted a brace or bar, G, the opposite free end of which is provided with hooks b to lock over the cross-bar of the other legs, as shown in Fig. 1, and hold the horse up in position for use. The brace is provided with two of the hooks in order that it may hold the legs in different positions, according to the desired position of the table. Having thus constructed the frame or support, I place upon it the table-top or ironing-board A provided with a cleat or cross-bar, C, under one end, and pivot the ends of said cleat to the legs L, as shown, so as to hold the top in position. The opposite free end of the top I provide on its under side with two cleats, E and F, which lock over a cross-bar in the ends of legs K to assist the brace G in holding the frame.

When ironing skirts and other like articles, which require to be slipped over or around the top, it may be raised, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l, and the skirt slipped on over its end. When the end of the top is raised the hot iron.

frame is held entirely by the brace G 5 but as soon as the top is lowered one of the cleats locks over the cross-bar, as before mentioned, to assist in'holdin g the frame.

It is obvious that the cleats E and F may be dispensed with, but as they give greater stiffness and rigidity to the frame, andalso assist in holding the top firmly, it is considered advantageous to use them.

When the table is to be folded or closed it is only necessary to unhook the brace G and raise the end of the top so as to release the cleat, when the legs, brace, and top may all be closed compactly together, as shown in Fig. 2.

To set the table up for use the legs are opened apart, the brace G hooked in place, and the top shut down.

In order to afford a safe and convenient res for the smoothing-iron I. provide the top on its upper side, at one end, with a plate or shoe, D, having av flange or rim turned up around its outer edge. rIhe shoe is made of the proper size to receive an iron, and is so located that the iron may be placed thereon and taken therefrom conveniently. The lian ge around its outer edge prevents the iron from being pushed or jarred off. The shoeis attached by a single screw or pivot, so that when the table is in use it may be turned outward beyond the edge of the top, as shown in Fig. 1, in order to be out of the way, and to prevent the top from being scorched by the When the table is folded the shoe is turned inward upon the top out of the way. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The ironing-table, consisting of the legs K L, brace G, and hinged or pivoted top A provided with the cleats E and F, constructed and arranged as shown and described.
