Application led May 12,
To all whomz't may concern:
Be it known that I, BENEDETTO GILIBERTI,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of the city of New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vibrators, of which the following is a specification. y
The present invention relates to improvements in therapeutic vibrators, commonly known as massage vibrators. The invention pertains more particularly to that type of vibrators, wherein a vibrator head is mounted upon a holding device, having straps into which the hand of the operator is extended.
The main obj ect of the invention is to provide a connection between the vibrator head and the holding device thereof, that permits the connected parts to be 'turned in any direction in relation to one another.
Another object of' the invention is to provide a connection of the character mentioned, which is simple in construction, efficient in operation and one which is capable of manufacture on a commercial scale, or in other words one which is not so difficult to produce as to be beyond the reasonable cost of. such a contrivance.
1With these and other objects in view, which will vmore fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
One of the many possible embodiments or" the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a vibrator constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof, with the elements in other positions; and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1, on a larger scale.
In the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates a vibrator head, in the form of a cylindrical hollow body, in which is disposed a rotor of any suitable type. i This rotor is not shown, as it does not form part of the present in- Speccation of Letters Patent.

vention. The rotor is driven from a suitable source of power by the intermediary of a flexible shaft, that extends into the head 10 through a bearing member 11 thereon. Thev vibrator head is mounted upon a holding device, including a curved plate member 12, to the ends of which are fixed in any suitable manner loop-straps 13, through which the hand of the operator may be extended. The connection between the plate member 12 and the vibrator head is made by a' universal joint of any suitable construction.- ln the.
case illustrated in the drawings, the universal joint includes a spindle 14, that is rotatably arranged in the bore 15 oi a boss 16, the latter being, preferably, made integral with the vibrator head '10. Tn order kto hold the spindle in position within the bore 15, the said spindle may be provided with a peripheral circular groove 17, into which extend screws 18 on the boss 16. The spindle is attached to or made integral with a 'forkshaped lug 19, straddling an ear 20, the
latter being centrally arranged upon thel plate member 12. Through the lug and ear extends a pin 21 in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the spindle 1li.
lnuse, the operator extends the fingers of one hand. with the exception of the thumb, through the straps 13, resilient blocks 22 on the plate member 12 resting on the back of the hand, the fingers being free to work on the body to be massaged. The universal joint permits the holding means, that is to say the plate member 12, to be moved in revq lation to the vibrator head 1() in a plane at rightangles to the longitudinal axis of the spindle 14 and furthermore in a plane at right angles to said first mentioned plane'. The operator is thus in a position to move the hand in all directions without changing materially the position of the vibrator'head. Undue strains on the latter and on the flexible shaft are thus effectively prevented.
l/Vhat l claim is A. vibrator includ-ing a head having a boss provided with a bore, a spindle rotatably mounted in said bore having a lug, a holder 'for said head having an ear, and a pin ex- York and State of New York, this 28th day of April, A. D. 1921.
